Indeed looks like a good touring option. On the personal side, I find it interesting that, out of the multitude of suitcases in the market, their suitcase update for their trailer system ended up with exactly the same model I started using with their system. Incidentally this model, Samsonite S'Cure, was popular in Europe, but no so much marketed in the US.

If I had to do a global tour and it had to fold n fly, this seems the best bike. Overbuilt steel goodness.

What are y'all's thoughts about how much dirt riding this thing could handle? I'm not looking to fly over jumps, but I've had a longstanding dream of a bike strong enough to plonk along slowly on the local singletrack, then fold up to stash in the trunk of my Impala. It's the long steering mast that worries me...

I'd say it can handle more than you. (Meaning you would have to suffer through A LOT of pain before the bike breaks. There being no suspension means there are limits of how much you can torture the bike without hurting your wrists and your back.)

Joe, fwiw, my son took my NWT offroad a few times. It was not the diamond frame model, either, and had the lower BB than the Llama. However, he said it did really well. He did not try to hop any big logs with it, but he rode a dirt track up and down a mountain and rolled over embedded rocks and the like. He's about 6 feet and 170lbs and he said he didn't notice any particular flex in the stem, but keep in mind the stem was fairly short for an agressive position. The biggest issue he mentioned was making sure he had the pedals in the optimum position so one didn't hit the ground on a rock or something (but the Llama rides higher). The bike was returned to me filthy but with no damage to any parts other than a new scratch on the rear der, which actually happened loading in a car.

I appreciate the feedback and look forward to hearing from folks after they get one. I'm not pushing the weight limit (yet!) at 190 lbs., but I'm very interested in its general "overbuiltness" for tumbling around in the dirt.

So what's the difference between the models? Are all Pocket Llama now diamond frame and all NWTs "monotube"? Is there still the option for having a belt drive on NWT (Bottom bracket in rear part) and not for Pocket Llama?

No , but now NWT, folds above the BB, so belt drive is an option, you have to specify belt option, so the frame is split to let the belt through..

and Llama and pocket rocket fold behind the BB and so a derailleur drivetrain,
Or a chain tensioner on an IGH is how they have to be built .. (I have R'off's)

My Llama is higher BB, (My feet out of the puddle wheel spray.). than NWT/Rocket..

Llama had, the front diamond frame option, and the monotube ... NWT & Rocket only the monotube ...


I see they changed the rear section and now there is a Kickstand mounting plate..

disc brake, gone to a post mount inside the rear , rather than ISO tab, behind the loopstay,

their tandems all used the 2 oversize tube front triangle , the early 90's ones used a smaller diameter tube triangle..

the fork steerer is 1.25" I bought someone else's Bespoke order when the backed out..

they chose a folding mast, I designed a replacement, It moves not at all ..

I went to the Velo Orange site and the top comment is, and I quote

" Do you know what sizes will be available? I'd love to see something that fits similarly to a 61 cm "normal" bike. There are hardly any small-wheeled bikes out there for tall guys."
