Trash Throwing Trash

This happened yesterday evening during a group ride. According to another cyclist in a pack well behind mine, the same vehicle tossed an empty 5-quart oil container at them while proceeding down the previous road. My cameras happened to capture round two. The cops were able to locate the vehicle, and its plates expired in 2011.

In a world where everything is recorded, you would think that if you are going to pull *****, you'd bounce far away and hide for a bit after doing stupid things. But then if you're driving with expired plates (and probably no insurance, and probably no licence and probably an unsafe vehicle, and probably with open liquor/and or dope.......) you are just used to it and have no clue how truly stupid you truly are.

Good for you. I hope they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Ya, watch the video. 2 riders riding side-by-side on a hwy taking the full #2 lane.... while there is a bikepath right next to the hwy.
That's asking for trouble.

A Death Wish.

A Death Wish.

It's called a sidewalk, and it's designed explicitly for walking.

First, there is no excuse for throwing trash at people no matter what they are doing.
Second, I have a hard time believing that path, parallel to the road with no buildings, residences or any other attraction in sight (regardless of where it is located) is "designed explicitly for walking" or intended only for the exclusive use of pedestrians, no matter what YOU call it.

In my state and many others I would speculate, these cyclists were within their right to ride two abreast in a multilane road as long as it is in one lane and doesn't impede traffic. This looked to me to be a divided roadway as the line was white not yellow and there was not enough traffic that motorists couldn't use the left lane. Whether the path to the right was a pedestrian sidewalk or multiuser path is irrelevant. The cyclists IMHO were obeying the law and the imbeciles throwing things at them were not. Even if the cyclists were on the path, the moron's behavior likely would have been the same as their intentions were to harass cyclists, not vent their frustration at them.

If you feel safer riding on the sidewalk or MUP, you should stay there, but don't suggest there was a valid reason for what these nudniks did or expect others to give up their right to use the road.

Brutality, insanity and anonymity. Pretty much in that order, I'd say. Greatly exacerbated by lack of parenting, and greatly exacerbated with the "modern" culture's heads-down-in-electronica, devoid-of-real-relationships "civilization" we seem to have. Such idiots appear to thrive in it.

Not that most people are that way. But it's rare a week goes by where I don't see a handful of such individuals throughout my travels. Used to be, it was such a rarity. These days, it's almost expected to find one or two out there.

I am in agreement the cyclist are within their right and the laws to ride where they are ... 2 abreast in a 2 lane divided hwy....but from looking at the video.....I call that "DEAD RIGHT"... because that's how they will end up.
You wanna ride like that, have at it.

Total balderdash.
I see such sidewalks along roads all the time, and you can clearly see there's absolutely no markings on that indicating it's a bike path. In my state, riding on that sidewalk would clearly be illegal unless it was explicitly marked for it. Your incredulity is absurd.

Do you ride even 10 hours in a year? They're riding legally, safely and aren't hindering other traffic in any way, but they're " DEAD RIGHT "??!!!

I will have at it, thank you. It's a lot safer than anything you're describing.

Interesting that despite the sun being "in the driver's eyes" and the fact that their visors weren't down, they were not only able to see the cyclists, but they were able to see them in time to prepare for and execute their assault.

It must have been both frustrating and difficult with all the vehicular traffic for the driver to move into the left lane to pass.

Oddly, sadly and ironically, it is likely that the drivers would not likely have been charged with anything at all had they simply run the cyclists over and said "I didn't see them." Even on these advocacy pages we are quick to excuse sun angles as a reason for making cyclists "hard to see."

I truly wish that the cops would take the motorists and the cyclists to a remote location and give the motorists two choices. Plead guilty on the spot or remain with the cyclists while the cops left the scene with a promise not to investigate anything that happened. Bet that'd suck the bully right out of them.

Here they throw flashlight batteries, canned goods, beer containers with / without contents. Or the popular right veer and brake. Be safe out there.

The ol' "dive and squat" is popular where I am, as well, with the road ragers.

A close second seems to be a harsh entry into the lane after passing, the instant the driver's bumper is >5ft past me on the road. Of course, that means those of us who just got aggressively passed are now in the prime spot of the rooster tail's flinging of stones and whatnot in the wake of that vehicle's ugly move.
