Counterpoint tandems, any out there?

We have been riding a Counterpoint Opus Mark II since the late 1980's. Ordered from the original designer. Other companies now make them. Is anyone else on these forums have one? Any comments?

Oh I love that concept, i never got to see one in person but i think is very interesting, specially if you have a blind partner or not totally able rider since the recumbent possition offer so much support and stability.

please post some pictures if you can and your overall experience about the bike

Had the opportunity to ride a Counterpoint, both as pilot and as stoker, in the 1980s. Quite the concept, especially since the pilot (sitting in the rear) could whisper 'sweet nothings' into the stoker's ear!
Stoker postion (up front/reclined) was neat as you could push with your back into the rear of the seat to get a bit more 'push' out of the pedals.
The Pino, made in Germany, has refined that concept a bit more and even has a 30 lb. titanium version.
Pedal on TWOgether!

Anglelake and Bilenky apparently still make them. Try bilenky.com and click to Viewpoint (what he calls them). He has some good pictures. I do fine with handicapped stokers, even leggless ones. If you want a scary thrill be a stoker on one of these as we drop down the Pine Flat road in Sonoma County, CA. Some 12 miles and 3000+ feet of new, smooth and very twisted asphalt. You have nothing between you and a horrible death but the captains' skill. If you are in the area . . .

I believe their "Harmony" may be made by Dennis Bushnell in Seattle, who fabricated the lion's share of James Weaver's original Opus Counterpoints (including yours) as well as a few of the three-seat "Waltz" bikes where the third rider sits recumbent style but facing backwards.

Bilenky's version of the Counterpoint, aka, their Viewpoint, has a number of improvements over the Opus IV.

Thank you for the correction. I found the error during a google search. Now I'll look for the 3-some. In 1988 I found one of the hand-cranked tandems in Steamboat springs Colorado.

Counterpoint Tandems were indeed made by Dennis Bushnell (me). We made @75 bikes? And just a few of the triple units. Those were great fun but a bit heavy. Then we didn't have a good high pressure tire for them which would have made them roll faster. Still great fun to ride.

I'm preparing one for sale right now. A friend owns two and has decided to sell one. It's funny that this topic was resurrected right as I'm in the middle of working on this. Oh and her other bike needed a new fork fabricated, which I got done locally. Thanks for chiming in, Dennis! Oh BTW, coming from using wedge BB eccentrics on my two Cannondales, I sure LOVE the Bushnell eccentric on the Co-Motion I overhauled last year. Wow, what a difference! Thank you!

PS That you're a "newbie" on here is rather funny & ironic!

Have one of the Mark II by Dennis

Dennis Jim Weaver made one for me in the 1986, serial 037. Just dusting it off for the season here in Cincy. My then wife and I traveled by train to Seattle for measurements and had it shipped to Long Island.
I'll post photos in my album when it is cleaned up.

Good to hear from you Dennis. Been wondering what you are up to. We were recently in Travelers Rest South Carolina and had to stop at Walmart to pick something up before we went out for a ride on out Bushnell Tandem. When a fellow came out and stopped to look at our bike and said, Bushnell, haven't seen one of those in a while!" He then let us know he had Bushnell single you had build years ago. Small world moment. Picture from our ride of the 17 Mile Drive.
