Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

CInarizine. It is indeed prescribed for tinnitus. Maybe you can figure our why, being a doctor and all.

Why?
The web said it's used for surface circulation, which is one of my complaints. I frequently can't tell if I'm barefoot or have socks on. I have blood work/urine work scheduled in two weeks.

There were serious adverse events early on and the FDA nixed it. The risk picture has changed since, but no one has found it worthwhile to go through the expensive approval process in a crowded field of similar products. People do say it's the best oral medication for seasickness though. Never tried it myself.

Ordered a Planet Bike headlight from Amazon. Had it delivered to work. Stopped in the office to get it this morning. The mount and charging cord were in the package. The actual light was not.

my Insurance xompany and the only hospital system in the county are fighting after the contract expired last October. They are now out of network hence the hoop jumping. I live 6 minutes from one of the now out of network hospitals that has a similar clinic as you describe. I drove nearly an hour in traffic to go to the in-network cardiologist.

It's a mess that I've complained about many times before. You must have missed the previous rants.

People with a score of 1 is where it gets sticky, and the risks/benefits are nearly identical, so it's in the grey zone. My guess is that your score is 1 and that's why it seems like you are getting different opinions.

If your doctors are super-old fashioned they are going by the now outdated CHADS score. You may want to ask more. The newer blood thinners, especially Eliquis, seem to be much safer than the old fashioned rat poison, and do NOT need periodic blood tests. But they are quite expensive, so if you have a stingy drug benefit and have the option to be on warfarin or not, the scale might actually tip towards NOT taking it.
both are using the same scale i assume. Neither are old and the latest one is very young as far as i can tell. I was on eliquis for a year. For the first 6 months i got a nearly free trial and after that the cost didn't matter since I blew through my 7500 max out of pocket. When it was time this year to pay 500/month (I said F that) i tried coumadin. You already know how that turned out. The Doc said the only reason I'm rated a 1 out of 5 for risk is that I have high blood pressure but I didn't have high blood pressure before my troubles and my nerve pain is probably contributing to it. In theory I'm a 0 risk or even if I'm a 1 she said that I could use aspirin or the effing rat poison. My choice is aspirin which is immeasurably easier to manage from my perspective.

Question about Sram force flat top chains. I have the standard piece of aluminum chain checker. Does it work on these chains? I have put 3700 miles on it and it is still showing plenty of life.

From what I can tell, it may help ringing in the ear if it’s caused by Menierre’s disease (excess fluid pressure in the inner ear), I am not aware if it helps with the more typical causes but who knows? If it does not make you too sleepy and relieves the symptoms, that’s great. As above, not available in the USA (or Canada).

She doubly emphasized "only take it at night". I think we have our answer I keep it on my bedside table so I remember it.

A question for the racer types. Richard Carapaz cracked on the last 3 km of stage 21, and barely finished. Would another gel have helped him out, or are there physiological things going on that cause that? I likely know the simple answer; I am interested in the more complex one.

Geeze. Living in the big city has its advantages. Of course, I might get run over or shot on the way to my test.

Maybe home testing is the way to go, but you need to check coverage carefully. My insurance only covered it if I tested every two weeks. I was regular enough that I only needed testing one/month, so it wasn’t any cheaper. And there was an initial charge of nearly $200 for someone to come to your house a train you. That wasn’t covered. What I really hated was how the company would bug you to order more test strips when you already had plenty. And if you were a day late because you were on vacation or out of town for work you would get a robocall reminder.

Painting is done. Mowing is next on the docket. This tree in the back yard is blooming for the second year. They are everywhere this time of year. Quite the treat while motoring down the road.

I have the joy of going to the office next week for the first time. I’ve never been to Pittsburgh, but imagine it won’t be so bad. Only issues with this trip are

A - I have to fly Delta
B - I have to connect through LGA

on the bright side, I upgraded 2 of the flights to 1st class for a whopping 75 bucks.

delta side of lga isn’t terrible, as long as you don’t have to go from D terminal to C terminal. That’s pretty terrible.

Porch pirates?
I watched a YouTube video where an ex SEAL made a booby trap with a 12 gage blank inside. A string tied to the doorknob sets it off. In order to test its legality, one of the pirates needs to press charges. Food for thought. Not in this case though, obv
