FWIW I use R&R gold with good results, long-lasting. It may be a bit dirty as above, so be sure you really wipe the excess/external part of the chain after application.

I use this on my "good" bikes (the Habanero and Roubaix), and home-brew on my foul weather/CX/beater bikes.

It's not easy to figure out all the compatibility issues with this stuff! At least not for me.

I was going to hold off on changing the brakes for the time being since I don't want to rerun the hydro hoses. I learned that I'm not too adept at that in the last go round. I haven't fully researched the brake lever question.

I have the RS700 shifters on one bike - I believe they are one of the few options for 11 spd bar shifter (to work with 105 etc) ... they work fairly well ... but a good tick down from XT or XTR level shifters

the brakes on the bike (with RS700 shifters) are the low end Shimano M396 hydraulic discs ... again work fairly well - but a good tick down from the better stuff ... another issue with this brake system is the calipers and rotors ... Shimano low end stuff (calipers/rotors) is 'wide track' - so quality rotor and pad choices are limited (and resin only due to the cheap stamped rotors)

the compat issues can be a real pita

including caliper / rotor / pad ... brake hose (hopefully BH90 on your bike ?) ...

would like to upgrade brake system on one bike - but put it on back burner until I get more time for research ...

on another (older) bike with hyd discs have better system (XT) - so that spoiled me ...

then there is another bike I recently acquired - gravel bike with mech discs - it barely stops - so gotta do something with that one

my 'home brew' was Mobil 1 or QS Ultimate whatever synthetic motor oils until I was able to get some bike chain lube

now I've entered the bike lube rabbit hole - maybe never to climb out of the hole ... shoulda stuck with Mobil 1

Don't you know! Cost about $150 to change out the hoses on the Domane. Of course, you have to disassemble the IsoSpeed contraption in the steerer tube to do it. Much more than I wanted to take on.

The Sirrus is my kick around town/gravel trail/short ride with the bride bike, so I don't want to spend a ton of money on it. It has a Sora drive train on it, and I have the 105 R7000 sitting around, so thought it would be a nice "upgrade" to go from 9 to 11 speed. I can also use my 105 left side PM on it. The RS700 shifters can't be any worse than the MicroShifts that are on there now. The bike is a few years old, so just want to freshen it up otherwise.

I can live with the brakes that are on there now as they are "good enough."

I believe that motor oil has some detergents and other additives in them that are not necessary (but unsure if any risk to chain), so I usually get bar/chain oil, mix 1:2 with OMS (odorless mineral spirits) for homebrew. It's ridiculous cheap and works reasonably well.

It looks like Zwift has their own branded trainer, the "Zwift Hub" and this looks like a rebranded trainer, anyone know whose make/model it is?

Note this is NOT looking at all like the bike-wheel shaped trainer vaporware that they were showing off prototypes of last year.

edit: Nevermind, I googled DCR and he said it's the JetBlack Volt smart trainer.

I am still satisfied with my wheel-on KICKR Snap for the rare foul weather Zwifting (honestly, I probably do only about 25 Zwift rides/year and only November-March), but if I were in the market I would consider this (assuming it's as advertised).

This long weekend gave me the opportunity to ride 3 days in a row for the first time in a very long time. Unfortunately, the heat affected my performance a lot. Saturday, right from the start, I felt drained, couldn't get my HR up, and was crawling the last few miles home. Sunday's group ride was a lot better, but I kept my efforts moderated. Monday's 28 miles in the dirt was difficult, but I stayed hydrated, stayed within my limitations (elevated HR and low power), and enjoyed a good ride with a couple of old friends. Today, I feel achy and drained, but will recover stronger because of the effort. It looks like we have another week of 100+ temps. Yuck.

I wonder how other smart trainer manufacturers will view this. I'm kind of taking it as a sign that Zwift sees their platform as the unassailable leader in the market, which they may very well be.

In watching foodie shows and perusing cooking videos, I kept coming across mentions of chicken (or pork) adobo, a signature Filipino dish that I, as half Filipino, was ashamed to be unfamiliar with. I finally dug up some how-to videos and, at the mention of bay leaves, it clicked - oh, my mom made this all the time when I was a kid, and I loved it. I had always thought that it was just something that she'd cobbled together.

After a couple weeks of tracking down the ingredients in my spare time, I finally made it last night. It's funny how strongly smells trigger nostalgia - it took me back more than 30 years in an instant. Besides lumpia, this was the first time that my wife or kids had eaten Filipino food. The wife loved it. The kids have more conservative, middle-America taste buds and were lukewarm. Oh well, tough ****, 'cause it's going in to the rotation.

They are the leader, but their user interface is still a piece of crap IMO. It's not intuitive and much of the functionality requires you to be "in game" to make adjustments etc.

Yeah, I agree... but the fact that they can continue to get away with it may be another sign that they're (essentially) unchallenged. I do wonder if this new trainer will spur other hardware manufacturers to put their weight behind and/or develop another virtual riding/racing platform; I certainly think there's room for improvement and (currently) little reason for Zwift to take it upon themselves.

Another issue with Zwift....the ability (or at least option) to talk to other riders in the group in real time is VERY helpful to the social aspect of the platform. I suspect it would be super simple for them to have a voice chat option/plugin. My friends and I use Discord which works fine, but I suspect Zwift could improve their "customer experience" drastically by making this available on the actual platform.
