A lot of the older areas have roads made of concrete. These roads can be some of the worst with sharp edged and heaves and huge cracks. This is earthquake country, after all.
It costs a lot to fix roads and we have a lot of roads that need fixing.

What??? Where is this coming from?
The problem in north and central Texas is that the soils are predominantly clay. During wet months it absorbs water and expands. Then in dry months it contracts to the point of large cracks developing. Those cracks pass through to whatever is on top of the soil.
Putting more sand or gravel between the dirt and paved surface does not really help because then the base is not stable. Buildings are built on engineered slab foundations that include piers where appropriate. The piers either bottom on rock, or they are drilled deep with bell shaped bottoms (in this case they depend on friction so as not to move up and down). It all works well if designed and maintained properly.
People run into issues with their foundations when the soil around it is not kept uniformly moist throughout the year. You simply cannot let it dry out in the summer. That’s why irrigation systems and well-designed drain systems are so important.
We have had zero foundation issues in 14 years in our current place, and no issues with our pool deck or pool she’ll. The foundation is rock solid. We also make sure soil moisture levels are maintained as much as possible. That requires maintaining the landscape so the plants don’t suck all the water out of the soils around the foundation.
The soils do suck, but they can be managed.

I met him out on the road bike. He was friendly enough but wanted to go more than he wanted to chat. Some of my friends have ridden road bikes with him. That's the extent of my interactions with the Hi-Torque guys.

When you get into the hills it gets different since you have areas of very stable limestone with pockets of unstable clay. That presents some foundation engineering issues.
The problem is that a lot of volume builders will throw a slab foundation down that is only supported with grade beams. It usually takes piers to have a stable slab. Piers are expensive.

Weird. They were showing so much in stock at the time. I blame abshipp , of course.
When I ordered it showed 4 in stock, and they appeared to ship from HK, may explain some communication/inventory delays. I didn't get a ship notification for about a week after my order.
That's super frustrating that you and Trsnrtr aren't getting yours

Here in the Los Angeles area it's really a mixed bag. Some areas have beautiful road surfaces while many others are terrible. Some major roads are broken and full of holes with big chunks of asphalt bouncing around. Some of this may be due to roads which were built as residential have become carriers of tens of thousands of cars and trucks.
A lot of the older areas have roads made of concrete. These roads can be some of the worst with sharp edged and heaves and huge cracks. This is earthquake country, after all.
It costs a lot to fix roads and we have a lot of roads that need fixing.

So likely is that it isn't possible givennature (freeze and thaw in the north that messes up the road, earthquake as you describe it that breaks it, some mentioned poor soil underneath the roads in Texas).

Just because you don't know the reason doesn't mean there isn't one. You should call the power company and demand answers.

I had blood drawn this morning. An older woman ahead of me signed her name with her thumbprint. Not at all uncommon here.
