I'll take some better pictures later, once it stops raining outside.

I was able to save the bartape when I added the aero levers which is a perfect match for the paint. I also got a nice Nervar crank from the bay which replaced the stripped stock unit. I painted the seat post flutes and I think I'll do the spaces in the stem too. Added new wheels and 700x28 tires to complete the look. I was pleased the big tires fit in the frame, though they need to go in flat. Once inflated, there is plenty of room all around. Let me know what you think.

Here's the oldish Raleigh Record I got a few weeks back.

When I got it it had a set of high rise handlebars and a big cushy sprung saddle.

I rummaged around at home and found a set of drop bars for it, found a spare saddle that has the Raleigh name on it salvaged off of a parts bike, wrapped on new bar tape, added new brake cables and housings, and put on an old pair of tires salvaged off of an old Schwinn junker that are in better condition than the tires the bike came with.

I'll let you figure out which are the before and which are the after pics ...

The bike is about a 55cm center to top seat tube with a 57cm top tube, standover is about 31" on 27" tires, the Huret deraileurs function just fine. If it was a keeper I'd either put on some Salmon KoolStop brake pads or switch it over to alloy wheels.

On to the next project....

Thank you. The tubing is Vitus 181. Not sure were it falls in the Vitus hierarchy but it seems fairly light.

Thank you. They are NOS Avocet Cyclocross 700x28. I don't know if they are still available.

Now for something completely different.

Now for something completely different
Found this sad looking Gundle Carrier/Trade bike at an auction recently.
Gundle is the Rolls Royce of this type of bike here in UK.
In production from 1932 - 1974 in virtually the same form.
Before, with the carrier cradle removed for transport.


And after a repaint and service, plus a new rear tyre and brake pads.



The rims have been left as is for now to check where the brakes rub and then the rest of the rims will be painted black as per the original.
This one was probably made in the 1950s, but could be earlier since it has no chrome, it is all black!

Can you tell me where the carrier cradle support legs rest while riding? Do they swing in towards the back of the bike?

They fold up backwards towards the rider and there should be a clip to hold it there.
It is missing above but I simply use a leather toe clip strap to provide positive location.
