Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wife earns unexpected money = I'm getting new brakes and crank (Campy Chorus)

My wife of 6 weeks is a very talented flute player who was asked to perform at a gig this weekend for a friend who was unable to play. She just came in and handed me the check and told me she wanted me to use it to get the brakes and crank I want for the Gazelle before Campy's new group comes out for 2007. A few days ago she had heard me woefully state that Campy's new 2007 group would not look good on my 1980's steel Gazelle frame when I have it repainted and restored next summer. So now I am getting the 2006 crank and brakes to put on the shelf till the restoration rolls around. And no, it's not a trap.

I know you just got married.......but,

I am not so sure that your wife telling you that you need to buy a new crank is a good thing.

Carbon or alloy crank?

Alloy crank. I like the classic look of the alloy cranks much more than the carbon for my vintage steel Gazelle. Next year's alloy cranks looking like a carbon copy of the carbon crank (pun intended) is my reason behind getting the crank and brakes now.

Jon, you and the new wife need to come over for dinner to discuss bikenomics with Martha.

Luckily she's already got a beautiful set of pearls for her graduation (Doctorate of Musical Arts) right before the wedding.

.

We'd be happy to come over any time, but can't make any promises on that 2200.

Question though - anyone know of anywhere other than ebay that I can find a better price on Campy gear than probikekit.com?

Try https://www.eurobikeparts.com

Or https://www.totalcycling.com

I purchased my Campy parts from both during my build.

Decided to go with ProBikeKit, splitting the order into 2 in order to stay under $200 on each and avoid duties.

Btw - ProBikeKit's got 10% off all orders going and free shipping as always to the US. Oh, and the alloy Record crank has an additional 15% off. Yes, I did splurge for one.
