Is it me?-OT

Is it just me or does anybody else think that talking on a cell phone while in the bathroom is really rude(at a couple of levels)?

But you don't get the sound effects when you only are posting from the biffy. And to answer the original question, yes.

As long as you're not making any obvious "noises", I don't see the problem.

Yup, it's rude.

Not that it matters, 'cause just about everything we were taught to be 'rude behavior' is a socially accepted norm today.

Don't think there are too many limits left.

"Doing the right thing" involves MORE of what NOT to do; nowadays, people need a REASON to do right, or to NOT DO WRONG. The fact that it's wrong is just irrelevant anymore.

It's rude and gross - and if I happen to be a bystander, I make as much noise as possible to make it clear to the person on the other end of the conversation.

+1

If I discovered that someone was calling me while on the throne, I'd probably tell them to finish pinching one off and then don't call me back. Then I would just hang up.

Many people at work will hide out in the bathroom to make/take personal phonecalls as well as tend to personal "business".
I really do not like being in the next stall over knowing any noises will be broadcast nor do I want to hear their conversation.

I also have a friend who continues talking on her phone (from her house) while she goes outside for a cigarette or when she takes a bathroom break. About the only time I can fit a word in edgewise is when she mutes the phone to flush. Sure makes me feel like my participation in the conversation isn't very high on her list of priorities!

At least she isn't driving and talking on her cellphone.

+100

There is no conversation that is so important that it can't wait 2-3 minutes for you to finish.

I used to get a little freaked out when I was in a stall and heard "Hey, how's it going?"

Now I realize it's someone on their phone.

A good opportunity to answer loudly, "It going pretty good overall but I am a bit constipated. I have been sitting on this John for 10 minutes and nothing but gas is moving."

Yes, it's rude. But you can text, though.

I hope you wash that thing off before you put it back up to your face.

I used to be considered rude, but now people must be connected to their phones 25 hours a day, 8 days a week, 53 weeks a year, so there is no unacceptable place to be on the phone.....

I have a better solution, you don't need to say anything, just drop a death bomb... You know, a silent, but deadly gas cloud that requires hours of fumigation to eradicate.... Let the person on the phone explain why they are choking and sputtering...

In other words; Just because you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD.
And that can be applied to a whole lt of stuff

Somebody on the phone doesn't really bother me, I don't run into that situation that much. When I do, I have no problem finishing my business, and flushing, once or twice, etc.
What really bother me are the people that drive with the phone platered to thier ear, or worse, looking down into thier lap and texting while they try and drive.

Crap (if you'll excuse the intended pun), it didn't take long after I joined the army in '69(19) where you not only chatted up the guy next to you, you missed the company when it wasn't there! Of course, in that situation and at that time you had no expectation of privacy.

I think that this, rather than an across-the-board increase in rudeness, is the point. In some areas, like smoking and picking up after your dog, there has been improvement. In others, most conspicuously cell phone use and driving, things are worse, at least in part because it is seen as "necessary" and accepted by a large chunk of society that wants to be able to do the same.

Yeah, I don't get the "I'm So Important I Need To Be Accessible 24/7" thing at all. I don't think talking on a cellphone while you're reigning o'r the porcelean throne is any ruder than talking on a cellphone while you're walking down the street...they're both an incredibly offensive violation of what I find to be Good in the world.
