Claud Butler
Hi all,
THis is a 1984 Majestic that I've been asked to bring back to life, for it's original owner. I have no issues with any of it except for the paint. I don't know if it CAN be brought back to life. Pics for your perusal:
I have pets around so don't like the OA bath idea. Is there another way?

May we please see a full drive side photograph of this Butler?
If you are not planning to do your own paint, let the paint shop do the preparation work.
Those alloy rims might best be cleaned by unlacing the wheels. Can the owner afford a full rehabilitation and new spokes?
Please do post more photographs.

The only consolation I can offer is that rust typically occupies about 10 times the space that the steel did, so the amount of material lost is not as great as it looks. I would try to find some way to do an oxalic acid bath first, safely, before blasting.
What is that wall surface? Wattle & daub?

The walls are solid mampostería. Look it up. The internet can explain it better than I can. As far as the painter goes, he is me. We don't have professional bike painters here, that I've ever heard of. Second/third world living. The lbs in my village sells freewheels only. The girl behind the counter has never heard of cassettes. In the city there is more selection. As far as unlacing and relacing the wheels, that is also me, and is contingent on being able to find spokes. The owner is currently in Belize; I'll get details when she gets back. I'll get pics up later today.

The camera on my phone got sat upon and smashed. I took the pics on my wife's camera and sent them to my WhatsApp account. Now I need to download them in order to upload them here. I did this a couple days ago, but today can't figure it out.

I haven't yet attempted to remove the stem or seatpost. I haven't done anything at all except remove the wheels and cut a couple of the cables, for removal. If you look closely you can see my parents' 1947 wedding pic in the background. That 3D pic next to the wedding pic is the oil line which was cut and then resealed(allowing me to be) by a piece of flak. The chief mechanic gave it to Dad. He piloted a B26 bomber during the last six months of WWII.

Luv that bomber stuff. It always makes me think of "Catch 22"
i made a rather nice lid for my OA bath tub to keep a couple of dogs safe.

I think that frame is definitely salvageable and well worth it. Nice find!

Stem and seatpost are out. I will filly strip it, measure it, and look for a kiddie pool. And make a lid for it. I am a hobby woodworker after all.

This being my first OA bath, is it required to remove the fixed cup and the headset races. And if yes for the headset races, what is the approved diy method? And can I expect the current paint to survive this treatment or are we looking at a full repaint?

I will set about building a custom bath. Thanks for the other thread.
