bent axle shimano 600 6 speed

I managed to bend the axle fighting with the freewheel . Is ebay my best shot at finding another or maybe
try some older bike shops ? Thanks, frisky

Any shop - well, almost any - should be able to sell you an axle. At worst, you'll have to cut it down a little.

Thanks dabac , after I got the freewheel off I could see it wouldn't be hard to find an axle . I was just thinking 30yr old stuff may be harder to find . Thanks again for the response

Axles usually don't bend with freewheel removal efforts. maybe you are kludge handed and mega strong . More likely the axle bent from the asymmetrically loaded design of a freewheel hub. The drive side bearing is set much closer the the OLD center then the LH side is. This loads the drive side , of the axle, far more then the LH side is. (So much of stress is leverage related). Andy
