today was 5x10min @ 94% (287w), pretty solid, except for the final couple of mins which became tough (indoor conditions not ideal at 70 degrees since it feels like summer in Boston at the moment)

Did a recovery ride last night with some teammates on Zwift. So glad I was able to figure out Discord so I could hear the s--t-talking. Almost like old times.

Figured out how much sweetspot on the TT bike I can handle. About 4hrs in 3 days.

Bonked it today. Break time.

Last week was 410 TSS and week before 600. So there’s that.

About 360 TSS in the last 3 days. Wasn't reallllyyy feeling it yesterday so went out on a hilly ride and hit the hills hard and did the rest easy. Ended up PR'ing a bunch of the hills and ending up with my 2nd fastest time on that specific route. Dang.

Legs feel pretty good for now as well so that's exciting. I think I have a Sufferfest test later this week so today/tomorrow are probably going to be easy-ish, which is a shame since I usually have time to ride long on thursdays. I think it's supposed to rain, but I also have a cross bike to set up and play with now so yay!

I turn 34 today!

I took a half-day at work so I could put in 4 hrs without having to get up too early. WFH from 1-5, then dinner with the lady and my parents (on them!!!). It should be a good day.

Except it's too cold. I may ride local small loops for a bit until I can ditch some layers, or just start on Zwift.

I started a zwift FTP test last night and a few minutes into the ride my PC said I needed to restart to complete an upgrade and asked to restart now, restart tonight, or schedule a restart. Not wanting to think about it, I clicked restart tonight thinking it would restart at midnight or something (it was about 5pm). 1/2 hour later I was 10 minutes into my 20 minute test segment, trending to beat my previous test by 10 watts, feeling good and my PC restarted!!! !!! So, I completed my test staying in the same gear and at roughly the same cadence for the next 7 min (I think holding the power of my first 10 min), then upped my cadence and exertion to leave nothing for the last 3 minutes. I assume I would have beat my earlier test by about the 10 watts, but it wasn't recorded so it didn't happen right? I went in and manually gave myself a 7 watt ftp bump for now...

Another 100km Zwift ride but I had a dropout at 20km and couldn't get back, so I did 80 with another dude that refused to let me pull...which is fine, I'm not going to bury myself so I can pull for a few seconds. Not sure what it is with Zwift, but most people either don't know or refuse to rotate pulls. Next 2 days will be easy then more volume this weekend.

Happy Birthday TMonk!

indoor training has been a bit more unpleasant due to the 70+ degree weather, but we're breaking after today. But today's 5x12 around 90% got tough when my indoor temp went to 72. easy day tomorrow and weekend won't be too demanding from an IF perspective so looking forward to that! lol

We had a typical week of riding including TTT work on Fiesta and Camp Pendleton plus some over under hill climbing. What is with the honey bees. My wife was stung on her nose and earlier this year I had a bee fly into my mouth and sting me on the inside of my lip and I have stopped a couple of times to remove bees from the inside of my helmet.

In other news, I went to the dermatologist for a routine skin inspection and he zapped a pre cancerous do dah on my face cheek as well as some other less bad crap. It looks like someone took a cigarette and put it out on my cheek. Between my wife’s swollen nose and my cheek, we look actors from a zombi apocalypse movie set.

While outside cleaning my bike with Lemon Pledge on Friday, I discovered that bees are attracted to it. Several of them were buzzing around the frame but I didn't get stung.

12 hours on the bike over F/S/Su. Now I can't stop eating!

Day off today, than a more moderate ~13 hours total for the week is on tap, with a big one on Saturday and some shorter rides.

Well, Training Peaks told me I had a 20 watt bump in my FTP, which sounded too good to be true. And it was. Power meter spike during a Zwift ride that must have happened while I was switching workouts so I didn't notice. Because otherwise my avatar would have been going a million miles an hour. Another Tuesday, another 2x Epic KOM (SST) 2 hr ride. Some work email during my Fuego Flats warmup. 3 more hours indoors tomorrow morning, then the rest of the week should be outside. Saturday may be 6+ hours, we'll see.

The back of hamstring twitched a few times last week so I've had to turn it down a few notches. Frustrating, but there is zero reason for me to push myself right now, the only thing that matters atm is hitting my calorie numbers and losing a few pounds.

Its looking like the doctor won't even see me for a few months for this hip issue. I'm hoping to go under the knife (if I have to which, I'm quite certain I do) next year. Its not painful now that I know how to keep it in place, but its just causing too many minor issues such at muscle strains and back pain.

I just had a thing removed myself. Luckily for me it was on my hip so one is going to see it.

Regardless, I don't think I'm going to be able to do 2x20's at like 220 W anytime soon so the numbers are a bit funny. The 4DP test (which exhausts you before making you do a 20 min test) put me at 209W. I think all this means is that 1) There's some progress and 2) I'm re-learning how to suffer.
Did another sufferfest test today in my training plan. This was the half monty which is a ramp test followed by a 20 min effort at their calculated lthr.

FTP: 236 (+27 from starting program)
MAP: 295 (+31 from starting program)

Decent gains from when I started this 6 weeks ago. I had tested higher on the zwift ramp test a month ago but this way things are internally consistent. Goal has been to hit 250 by the end of the year. I think it's do able. Weight is down to just a bit over 160 and I'm hoping to settle down at 155-160. Not going crazy with the wl. I don't want to go back to being the 145-150lb waif I was in college lol.

A 27 Watt FTP gain in 6 weeks is huge even if you were pretty out of shape at the start. Great work.

Thanks gents. I'm right around the same measley w/kg as when I started racing in college so things are right on track. I think 250 is doable by the end of the year. I topped out at 270 in college so I think it's going to be slow going after hitting 250 if things keep on keeping on. Hopefully by March/April next year.

I did swap crank lengths and thus have a different pm on there now, but this one is brand new out of the box so should be good. It also kind of reinforces how I'd been feeling out on the road. I recently set PRs on all the climbs on two of my routes where I was going up at a spirited pace but wasn't blowing myself up. I've had a few rides like that lately where I just knew I was faster for the same or less PE.

Let's see how it goes. I hope the shorter cranks work out but we'll see. Moved from 50/34 172.5 to 52/36 165.

And I was in decent shape earlier but not in great cardio shape. I started riding again in April/may mostly for fun then and then started 'training' when I got my kickr in August. Starting this plan was the first of the structured workout ish and I skip some all the time when it's nice out and id rather just get in some miles in daylight.

Tldr:
Thanks, I'm not mad about it!
😁😁😁
