In most places that are flat, there can be fearsome winds, so either it's great till you turn around, or it sucks till you turn around, or you get blown into traffic one way and blown off the road the other.
(It is windy AF here today, and I foolishly took my most wind-susceptible bike, the Bianchi. A couple times it tried to get out from under me, and I ended up pushing down on the leeward side of the bars, and one spot I had to put all my weight on the leeward pedal. Shoulda taken the Ritchey.

Two were covered with bug splatters from the trip to A&M, one was cleaned to send off to Tulsa, and my wife's was just due a bath. Our cars get washed every week or two. Mopped the garage floor Friday night as well.

With the hills here, if I only used my rear brake, I'd be dead by now, either from overcooking turns or skidding the rear wheel and in either case being run over after I went skittering across the yellow line on my side.
