Campagnolo Resource

Hello All.

I'm looking for a good resource to learn more about Campy offerings and history. Books, websites, whatever is out there. A search here on BikeForums yields many question and answer threads, but I'm looking more for educational resources to get general knowledge and then I can rely upon the experts here on BF should I want clarification.

I have Veloce 9 speed on a Merckx Corsa Extra that I bought about ten years ago. I immediately liked the ergonomics and shift feel and just rode it without thinking much more about it. Now I'd like to maybe build a project bike using Campy and that leads to questions of what was available at the time of the frame manufacture, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

Unfortunately, from what I know, there is no one-stop-shop for Campy knowledge. But here some resources I frequently use:

VeloBase.com - this is probably the first place to go, and not only for Campy!
Raggi di Storia: Cataloghi e Libreria - for a good collection of old catalogs. There are other sites too.
Campagnolo Archives - Le Cycleur - I like this one for very specific details about how to identify components and their different variations.

But there are many knowledgeable BF members that can probably point to other valuable resources. Hope this helps.

Cheers!

This is a fun website to read through:

Campagnolo derailleurs

It's a blog, so it's one person's opinion.

Classic Lightweights has a good selection of pages on Campagnolo components, Peter set up a good site that is almost addictive for reading.

If you can find a copy of "The Dancing Chain" a history of derailleur equipped bicycles and Campagnolo in particular, it will give you a great foundation.

Disraeli Gears has an excellent collection of Campagnolo literature: Documents - Campagnolo

The rest of the site is also worth exploring.

Just a note when researching Campy (or most bike companies,) there’s a lot of grey area. Things changed without being documented, things were documented that were never available, histories and timelines are patchy at best and don’t believe everything you read on the internet!

Holy cow, y'all!

That's enough reading and research to keep me busy for a while. Thank you all very much.

Depending on how vintage you're going, Campy's web site has some good material. Spare parts lists back to '94. Catalogs back to 2004. https://www.campagnolo.com/US/en/Sup...#documentation
