Thanks for posting that squirtdad . With fall here, there are less threads, and with the holidays approaching this seem like a good time for such a posting.

There is a term in math called "regression toward the mean". That money has to go somewhere, what better place than a local bike shop and an bike manufacturer.

Of course, you have to be thinking if the parents are willing to spend that type of money on a strider bike, how much will they pay to get their kid into an Ivy League school?

Yea, this is nuts.

my thinking would be: Specialized build a simple inexpensive model and for every one of these carbon ones sold donate 1 or 2 or 3 of the simple one. profit and goodworks together

So, you start your kid out with a mountain bike that would require weights to bring it u to the UCI (road) minimum. Cool, except when that kid becomes a 'tween, what are you going to do? Spoiled?

Those rims are nowhere near deep enough and the apparent lack of thru axles is an insult. Has Specialized posted their wind tunnel testing data for this frameset?

She is only smiling because her new balance bike weighs 4.6 pounds, roughly proportional to the weight of a high-end carbon bike relative to an adult rider

Like at all price points with Specialized, this one will be relatively over-priced, premium pricing or whatever (largely for their name and for their above-average modern aesthetics).

But is this frame perhaps made of an injection-molded CFRP liquid instead of any kind of layup?
My money is on this being a hybrid of both (injection-molded into a mold having pre-placed pre-preg reinforcement layers).
Looking forward, this could actually be an affordable way to achieve economical performance/aesthetics manufacturing.

When our kids were little, we bought a bunch of Trek bikes over the years (with drive-trains and pedals). We also bought one Specialized. The one thing everyone remembers is that it was about 2X heavier, and it put me off the brand. Maybe they are addressing this issue.

I hear in the toddler crowd Aluminum is Real. Depending on which diaper you wear under a proper onesie.
About $60 several months ago.
How much better is a $1000 CF balance bike than a 3.5 pound, $60 Al one? Definitly hetter wheels and cockpit amenities.

Seat low, just now fits our 21 month old. Who ‘rides’ it outside on the slightly inclined street. She knows the diff in effort up the hill and down the hill. Some things don’t have to be taught.

Life is a matter of ‘tude, over toys.

Grunge out.
