1982 Bianchi Nuovo Racing - info and opinions sought
I have the opportunity to purchase one of these in Celeste green from its original owner, outfitted with the Nuovo Record and Ofmega groupset. I have not yet inspected the bike, but it's my size and looks promising. My research has not yielded much info, other than this is not a collector's item. Is this is a mid-level model, comparable to a Campione? Where in the groupset line did the Nuovo Record fall? Any info would be appreciated.

I purchased one for my dad, but it isn't celeste. He loves the bike. People with more experience will chime in, but he has zero complaints about the components. His is also mostly Ofmega with Nuovo Record.

Hello an '82 Nouvo Racing? nice bike. while this is not as you say a collectors item it is still a great Bianchi. these 'bread and butter' bikes are fabulous in their own right. a basic Columbus / Falck frame and fork, and all those great Campi clone Ofmega parts with the Nouvo Record shifters and derailleurs.
depending on the price I would look real hard at (OH yeah like I need another bike) that was close to me. does it fit you? was it well cared for?
as for the level the Nouvo racing was, as you guessed the Campione of its day. first real race bike in the line up. back in '82 Campi pretty much had Super Record, Nouvo Record and Grand Sport and some varitation there of (right Guys?) Nouvo Rec. being the 'bread and butter' group and other than the F & R derailleurs most of there real difference, between NR and SR
were some weight savings and nicer finishing.
hope this helps

Thanks, Stanger and Bianchigirll, for the info. Bianchigirll, I admit to not knowing much about Bianchis (hence the appeal for help :-) ). I'm feeling the need for a steel bike for longer distances (can't afford CF right now).
I have an '88 Nishiki Olympic and an '05 Alu Trek 1500. The Nishiki actually has a harsher ride to me, 'tho I didn't mind it 22 years ago. I confess I've been spoiled by the Trek's 'brifters and 9-spd gearing, so I'm not sure about switching to friction shifting and a 6-cog freewheel. I've seen some other threads suggesting an "upgrade" to either Shimano or Campy 7 or 8-speed freewheels, so I might be inclined to replace some of the components later on to get better gearing.
It's set up with a 52-42 crankset as is. Don't know about the freewheel cogs, but I figure it's set up for half-step gearing. Ugh! Any idea what the max tooth capacity is for the Nuovo Record? Would it handle a 28-tooth cog? That would give me a 40" low gear(!) Not sure my knees can handle that. I assume there are smaller chainrings available should I want to lower the gearing. I've even seen a Campy triple crankset on eBay, so I think there are lots of possibilities.
Mostly, I just wanted to make sure it was a decent bike.

Like most steel bikes, you can change the gearing to whatever you really want. I have a Nuovo Racing in my to be rehabbed queue right now in Celeste as well. But most of the components are toast, other than the headset, bottom bracket and crankset.
Celeste bikes have a strong following (particularly the Italian ones), so if the price is not too bad, you need to jump on it.

You never know, sometimes sellers hold out to get their full asking price.

It sounds a lot like my Bianchi, which is an endorsement from me.
