Vintage Mountain bike - which forum to choose????
Okay, this always gets me. When I pick up a vintage mountain bike to play with, I'm always torn as to who might find it interesting, the C&V folks, or the Mountain Bike folks. And some folks sneak into both forums, you know who you are!

A vintage mountain bike? Sorry, if it's not this year's fad, you have to have it melted down immediately and buy a new bike. And then immediately start a thread on what needs "upgrading".

There's a third choice: 50+ forum - - even if the rider doesn't qualify, sometimes the bike might

I'm all too familiar with that problem. Most MTBers think that a 2010 bike is vintage already. Most C&V riders think that our bikes are marvels of technology that belong in the "futuristic bikes" section.

Okay okay, just so everybody knows I ain't hatin' ! (American Public Schools alum...) The great story about this bike is that the day before I was poking around a bike shop, and the manager was showing me is "awesome closeout deal" mountain bike for $800 that looked like a truss bridge and weighed as much. Now I will be the first to admit the Miyata isn't a featherweight, but it was lighter than that jewel of technology, and I only paid a minority fraction and still got a bike - even after 20 years - that is noteworthy. Yes, I rock!

There's a vintage section over on MTBR.com that I find has more traffic and knowledgeable people.

I have a pile of 80's mt bikes i've saved from the scrap. They make great utility bikes.

The bike is mechanically done now. I'm just working on some new decals from Velocals, and I will post pictures in a new thread. Apparently these bikes stayed under the radar, because the top tube graphics have been elusive thus far. I haven't been able to dredge up any sources or web images that show them in sufficient detail for reproduction. I guess that means my bike is *really rare*.

Out here in the west we say, just go Utahan, you can have more than 1 thread vs having more than just 1 wife. Choose a bunch.

In Spokane, I think they've all come from craigslist. The former go-to repository of cast-off bikes - - the huge St. Vincent de Paul thrift store - - closed.
