Rain videos are great!

I hate riding in the rain though.

The best thing about Gopro (or their connectors) is their extremely versatile mounts.

With the bike and foot blocking so much, what is the advantage of mounting at the rear axle pointing forward?

Practically speaking, not a whole lot. However, I didn't bring it up since nobody asked a question about practicality (until now), and it does answer the OPs question of the thread.

Now that you mention it, from a purely artistic perspective a variety of angles (even wacky ones) are permitted as long as they 1) help to tell a visual story, 2) express some emotion, and 3) adds some significant value to the video.

For example, showing effort, creating tension or adding action or dramatizing speed. As long as it doesn't last too long and it isn't too disorienting.

Even the masters of film (e.g. JJ Abrams and his lens flares) sometimes take this too far in their quest to create a "dramatic effect". Your audience will be the final judge.

last year when I was starting to use cleated pedals & shoes it was instructional to watch a BF rider as he rode in traffic, connecting & disconnecting. interesting to see his technique & when he performed those two actions

since I have an extra camera for hand held stuff, was thinking, for night rides, to bring a powerful flashlight w/the camera attached. then I could point around at stuff I see in the woods like the owls & giant muskrats. the only issue would be carrying the big combo. maybe I could use an old, over the shoulder courier bag ...

You get used to it after a while. Here I'm on a folding bike in a rainstorm; again playing with different camera angles:

Niterider Lumina Flare light attached with the optional helmet mount. Using the same strips; attached
a Polaroid CUBE cam next to the light. Both light and cam pointing at the same direction:

that make sense. I've considered that a cpl times & might have to take another look into it. not sure how much I want mounted on my head, but if it's just for the occasional night ride, it might be OK. I do have 1 light that would be a modest candidate ...
