Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

seeking perfect allrounder bar for all types of riding...(or narrow trekking bars)

Hey y'all:

I am seeking a perfect all round bar for my bike (ized for commuting, touring, randonneuring) as the stretch to hoods are a bit much on my nitto noodles... so am even considering a shallower ramped bar (salsa..others?) ..sure some tout drops as the 'ultimate' bar ...but not for me (at least not yet)
I don't race: mostly commute and tour and fast ride.

trekking bars look interesting...many hand positions but are there any in narrower widths (I have a a pair never put on bike but was/am considering yet they're 59cm wide! ..
but being so wide they just make the bike look a bit weird: like some dragonfly/bike hybrid...

I do like the wider stance of moustache bars over the 48 noodles and am considering mimicing the ramp of drops by putting on bar ends running perpendicular to the ends of the moustache bars to give me yet another hand position (anyone done this?..yeah i know sounds weird, but why not experiment to find something that fits right?)

noodles/drops...they don't do it entirely for me...feel i can get alot of stretch with moustache
...don't use drops very much (at least not now...don't race...commute and tour mostly)

someone suggested a wide arcing bar to mimic the natural hand position (bontrager 17 clean sweep?) with bar ends...admittedly on my dekerf HT i have mtn bars (flared as most are) with bar ends and love the set up...

thoughts?...even niche bar makers out there for those of us in search of the 'ultimate do it all' bar?

many thanks for any suggestions you can kindly provide.

Nitto makes a great selection of all around bars.

Modolo used to make trekking bars in sizes down to 50cm wide. I have a few pairs which I bought on special order several years ago. They don't appear to be in the catalogue anymore in that size although if you make enquiries through the Modolo importer near you you may be able to special order some old stock items. Modolo called the trekking bar "Yuma".

but if you see any of those 'trekking' bars, they're very similar to the good ole' moustache bars if you remove that ramp closest to the rider.

open up and scroll near the bottom for a pic...

am thinking 'why not just see if can fit some bar ends to the ends of the moustache to give me that same ramped added hand position?...this way i don't have to special order...and moustache bars are $22ish (don't have to be 'nitto', which I've had) and bar ends are cheap too...

can anyone imagine what i'm getting at as per my suggestion?
