We need a name for this saga for the sake of meta comments.

The Great Serial Number Conspiracy? (too wordy)

Orthodox-Gate? (overused, and OG gives it more street cred than it deserves)

Ponderous Pontifications (since it appears to be an ongoing multi-part concern)

Ok, the dad-joke part of my brain (which is like, 100%) has exhausted all the sensible possibilities.

You're kidding, right? You think we have a shortage of wingnuts down here? Keep him--maybe he'll come in handy someday. You never know.

Can find a few extra pairs in stock to help fill the wingnut gap in your locale?

... Hummer :

Is the intent here to correct an orthodox point of belief, thus establishing a new orthodoxy? Or are we more in the realm of heterodoxy here ?
I've no wish to be pedantic on something like this, but I am confused about where this is going. Not that confusion is an unusual, or even a bad thing.

I try not to judge.

For every silly measurement, an Arduino is at hand.

cudak888 , having absolutely no idea what in the world an Arduino is or might be, regardless of interpreting their serial numbers, I provide this helpful link in order to insure Ardinuino Orthodoxy.

P.S. This thread is really fun despite the OP's seemingly underhanded criticism of esteemed, respected, and appreciated C&V contributer, T-Mar . Jus' sayin'.

After we develop this metric for BF perhaps we can take on much easier tasks less important forums like Facebook and Twitter.
I think they also have some "splaining" to do too.
Best, Ben

You’d have to check his serial number.

Dirty Disney is a better definition. It is a twisted Cinderella story, with Roddy delivering a once-in-a-lifetime wacky performance which keeps you glued to the film. It's worth a watch, even if the ending leaves a bit to be desired.

It's not really in bad taste (correction - the sweater scenes are very creepy indeed, and shall be made creeper courtesy of Gugie watching), but the thing that stands out is how it takes its wackiness calmly and methodically. If anything, Axlerod was probably poking the publicity machine to encourage people to see the film.

PM incoming.

-Kurt

P.S.: Monday Glue, Tuesday Weld, Wednesday Grind, Thursday Sand, Friday Paint, Saturday Build, Sunday Ride.

Part 5. General Trading Companies

On July 8, 1853 Commodore Matthew Perry with four gunboats of the United States Navy and with orders from the US president, entered Edo Bay near Tokyo, Japan.
His mission was to encourage the government of Japan to establish diplomatic relation and trade agreements with other nations in the region.

Commodore Perry's voyages to Japan set of a chain of events that helped lead to the Meiji Restoration and the industrialization of Japan.

Japanese general trading companies were important to Japan's economy in the 20th century. To be successful trading companies need to help arrange financing for customers on both ends of a transaction. So trading companies developed relationships with banks.

One of the largest trading companies was Chu Itoh and Company later known as C.Itoh and Company. The company began in 1858 and became C. Itoh and Company in 1914. The founder was Chu Itoh and his son Chubei Itoh also came into the family business. Chu Itoh and company survived all of the economic downturns over the years that had caused other companies to go bankrupt. C.Itoh absorbed some of these companies which enabled them to expand their areas of trading expertise. The company was trading in many sectors, with cotton and textile trading being significant.

Another false claim that on occasion spreads on this forum is that C.Itoh is a brand name of Bridgestone. Not ture, C.Itoh is a brand name of C.Itoh and Comapny. Sheldon Brown's website still makes this incorrect claim.

https://www.sheldonbrown.com/japan.html#citoh

Some of the vintage Japanese bicycle fans will recognize the name "Chubei" as one of the marquees on bicycles imported into the USA by C.Itoh.

Another large trading company was Marubeni. Marubeni for a time held a financial interest in Yamaguchi bicycles.
This may explain why there was a period when many USA and Canada brand bicycles had Yamaguchi serial numbers.
Marubeni pulled out their financial support of Yamiguchi and the company later merged with another bicycle company.

H. Tano and Company does not appear to have been a major trading company. Established in 1905 with head office was in Kobe. Kobe is a city on Osaka Bay and the region around Osaka Bay was a major center for the bicycle and bicycle parts manufacturing. So H. Tano and Company trading in bicycles is a natural fit.

I have not found any information in English about H. Tano and Company outside of the bicycle business. In Japanese there must certainly be more information to be found.

Tatsuzo Ueda wrote a paper for the United Nations University entitled "The development of the bicycle industry in Japan after World War II", published in 1981.
In the paper Mr. Tatsuzo Ueda details some of the activity with trading companies as JIS standards were put into place
for finished bicycles in 1960 and for finished-bicycle factories in 1962.

" Not to be overlooked in this connection are the ties between major manufacturers of finished bicycles
and integrated trading companies or big industrial interests, which became more conspicuous in this period.
To expand their markets,
Miyata Seisakusho joined hands with Mitsui & Co.,
Dainihon Jitensha with C. Itoh & Co.,
Nichibei Fuji Jitensha with Tokyo Shokuhin, and
Welby with Marubeni-Iida, all for co-operation in sales activities,
and a capital link was formed between Miyata and Matsu****a Electric Industrial Co.
to strengthen the former's mass-production capabilities.67"

Understanding Japanese trading companies is helpful when reading early volumes of Japan's Bicycle Guide.
Japan's Bicycle Guides were published by the Japan Bicycle Industry Association to promote the export of Japanese bicycles and bicycle parts.

Edit: I just realized that I may have stated a Japanese name incorrectly and have attempted to correct that name.
Edit 2: Another Japanese name correction

I'm still trying to figure out what the end goal all this is.

If you have sufficient sources that prove more concrete links between japanese trading houses, manufacturers, and serial numbers why not post them up for everyone?

So far I am seeing a lot of "fact" and not a lot of supporting data. Reviewer 2 would not be convinced.
