1970s Nishiki Sport Serial Number

I just bought an old Nishiki Sport. The only serial number on the frame is four digits long on top of the seat tube, it reads L139. Is anyone familiar with this format?

Hello Beck326 welcome to the forum.

As a new member it is difficult for you to post pictures.

Did the serial number stamping look like this?

Third attempt at reply.

The digits are on the very top of the seat tube above the top tube.

Thanks for the info. This is the third Nishiki Sports Cycle I've seen ,including my own, and they're all painted the same yellow color. People keep calling them junk, low end, etc. It's a good solid well made bike. I'm not a weight wimp so its heaviness doesn't bother me. The bike's survived 50 years and I think it deserves some respect. I'm going to fix it up as though it were a top of the line model.

Thanks again.
