Up for sale is a Cambio "Special" shifting set from Gipiemme. All of the parts are obviously Super LJ parts from Simplex. They are all unused. This is about as clean as it gets. Box is included.

If one is so inclined, one can remove the Gipiemme markings and replace them with available Simplex markings. It it still going to say Gipiemme on the back, but how often do people look back there unless it is some geek like me?

I have that groupset on a recently purchased bike and I am told it is one of the best friction sets ever made. (Haven’t ridden the bike yet. Complications…)

If someone is hemming/hawing don’t hesitate. Rarer than unicorn tears.

Apologies for going on a tangent, but where are these Simplex name plates available? I recently acquired an SLJ derailleur with a dented name plate, and I'd love to rehabilitate it.

Those derailleurs were produced with 6 different marques: Simplex, Spidel, Gipiemme, EDCO and Peugeot. They used thin glued on aluminum name plates to show the brands.

I've never seen anything but these markings on the rear parallelogram plate:




The rear derailleur is an SLJ 5500 CP/SP racing model with a 26T maximum size rear sprocket. I mention this because a few years ago I tried to use one of these with a 13-28T FW. No Go so I had to do a bunch of research. I can show someone how to modify the RD to go up to a 28T sprocket.


ONE OTHER THING: NEVER EVER TRY TO ATTACH OR REMOVE THIS STYLE OF SIMPLEX RD USING THE EXTERNAL HEX IN THE TOP PIVOT!!!!!



The plastic plug is there for a reason! The hex is only for presetting the pivot tension during assembly! If you try to use it you can DESTROY the derailleur!!!

Simplex has used a 9mm screw in the back side of the RD for mounting them on a dropout since the mid 60's!

BTW, I've seen little or no difference in performance between the SLJ 5000/5500 standard parallelogram and the SLJ 6000/6600 drop parallelogram version. They both shift great!

I need to quit looking at this!

I will say I had Simplex DT shifters on an old Orbea Cabestany for years. I had no problem friction shifting up to an 11 speed Campagnolo cassette with it and over the years ran it as a 10 speed and 9 speed also. They have plenty of pull and seem quite precise.

In case people are wondering, those are retrofriction shift levers - arguably the best friction levers ever made. They were so good that pros with Campy levers would swap them for these levers.

Verktyg answered already. But Greg offers only a decal, not a plate. I had a similar issue on a front derailleur and used some ultra thin sheet styrene cut to size to resolve.
