Stronglight A9 Headset - French Thread - NOS
***SOLD***
Hi!
Up for sale is a NOS Stronglight/Spidel headset. It is French thread and has a 26.5 crown race. The box is included but isn't the correct box for an A9. Just a fun souvenir.
Thanks!
$85/shipped

I have one of these NOS in the original box. I keep waiting for the right bike to use it on!
IMHO, this is the best vintage headset ever made. The roller bearings made this a virtually indestructible headset and it is light.
GLWS.

another vote in favor of the A9 and the very similar Stronglight Delta! The A9 has the correct look for vintage bikes, and the roller bearing design is very durable! I have one bike with a Delta headset that has 53,000 miles on it, and another with 60,000 miles.

I don't have a French bike to put it on otherwise I'd buy in in a flash. Best headset ever made? I put the English version on my Mooney 25,000 miles ago. Rode 50 miles on the freshly refurbished, painted and re-wheeled with sweet sewups. Same old headset except a Tange locknut. (Aluminum original was looking a little wrench-tired.) No-hands riding on the sweet new wheels was absolutely sublime. I have never felt better.
This Stronglight at 25k miles is as good as the Campy NR that came on the frame when new.

Do you know if the 26.5 crown race is pretty standard for a French bike, or would it be advisable to check one’s crown race first? I’m not really in the market, but I’m curious nevertheless. The current headset on my Moto GR seems to be gliding along fine for now.

I would start with looking at Sheldon’s page about French bike standards.

Who wants the perfect headset for their French bike?
