Knog Oi! Bell ?
I know it sounds like a Star Wars character, but what's the deal?
I thought the Velo Orange bells were pricey, but $20 - $40 ....
I guess cabin fever has really set in when I'm searching for bells.
I searched at the commuter forum, but not much there

It’s not even that good of a bell. I bought some when they were on Kickstarter. They had problems with the spring that isolates the bell and they didn’t vibrate all that well.
Spurcycle is a little more expensive but is built better and sounds nicer.

I had one on my kid's bike. It looks and sounds great and is plenty loud. However, it very easily gets dislodged from its springs making it useless as it only rings when perfectly seated on the springs.
We have replaced it with a Rockbros clone of the Spurcycle from amazon.

I had a black on on my gravel bike, but the little coil spring for the striker got fatigued after less than a year, and I didn’t even use it that much. I also replaced it with a much more durable Rock Bros bell. But I just bought a silver Oi for my vintage bike w/silver bars. I just went to Knog’s website and it looks like the “Classic” model has a much more durable striker design.

I did a comparison video of most of them a while ago. The Spurcycle is nice and loud but the Crane sounds much more polite while still being audible. Less aggressive, which makes it better for city use.
The Knog Oi luxe is pretty nice, better spring than the original version at least.

+1. No pic as my two PALE by comparison to gugie collection, but they are both old Reich (West Germany) “ice cream truck” bells. They do work well in the wild so are mounted and currently in service. They seem quite effective at getting folks attention. Even had a cute gal once order an Ice cream cone. Eh, ah, never mind………. I wasn’t supposed to mention that.

I have an Oi, though it's not currently mounted. I thought it was fine but maybe I didn't use it long enough to notice the deficiencies. It was so much fun to ding, I couldn't restrain myself and I was annoying my friends.

Thanks for the recommendations. I can't access Gugie's audio, but are ice cream truck bells the one's with the lever? If so they also remind me of an old dial telephone ringer.
The eBay section of vintage bells is great fun BTW. Snoopy, Big Bird, Dogs with sunglasses, Dinosaurs... even a beaver? How about one shaped like a Big Mac?
And some lovely antique ones...mostly from overseas. Thanks again

The design of the Oi bell is elegant. It has been a long time since someone re-invented the bell. It takes up less space on the handlebars than a traditional bell and that is a good thing with all the stuff we tend to put on our bars.
Yes, you are definitely paying for development. I have one. I liked the design, but like with a lot of leading edge stuff, I didn't like it as much once on the bike. I either get a really weak ting or a loud ring. I have startled people with it. Of course, I may have startled them with any bell or call out.
So far, my favorite bell is..... Oh, I can't say. This thread is about the oi bell.

I love my big brass Crane Suzu, and so do the pedestrians I pass. I also have a small first gen Oi! and was constantly surprised at how far people heard the sound.

Ok, then. I like brass bells and I cannot lie, but there's a plastic bell that's caught my eye.
Jellibell. I bought this for my daughter when she was little. It is an eye catching design for a young rider. Nice colors, transparent so it allows you to see the gears inside and good sound. So, while I think it looks out of place on my vintage bike, I like the sound and the way I can modulate it.

I can mount it near my hand and use one finger on it to move it back and forth and get a pleasant sound. Sometimes plastic construction is used to make the product cheaper, in this case the plastic is a good and durable type. Plastic was chosen here to make complex parts easily. I've had this bell for over a decade. No problems. I may be talking myself into getting another one. Maybe I'll try painting it so it looks like brass. No, I'll just accept it as it is.

I'm completely sold on the TimberBell. Designed for mtb, indispensible for urban riding especially fixie-ing. No need to manually ring, especially when your hands might be otherwise occupied.

So here is a really irritating alert for ya. It's the sounds of the old toy space guns. I took one half of a broken YoYo and just put it inside my glove when I am ridding in town. I just shake my glove and its off. It really gets people moving and IS NOT polite. Here is a vid of the YoYo. Just break it in half.
