Don't be this guy, lol.

Normally I'm of the opinion 'if you can afford it who cares' but an 8k wheelset to pack fill a cat 4 race would be pretty serious lol.

+1, but it also depends how old the SR4 is in my book. I drive either a $100k+ car or a $200k RV to the track, so no one should shocked if I have nice equipment. There's got to be some benefits for getting old and fat, right?

BTW, when you get old and fat, even sports car purchases will be based on whether or not your bike fits in the trunk.

What's the point of buying such nice wheels only for them to gather dust and only see a track twice a year? With Mavic crash protection, they are covered for disasters etc. Anyway each to their own, but IMO life is too short to hide these away for special occasions.

This is why you don't want to use your fancy wheel on training lol
I'm sure you don't want to spend another few thousand dollars on a new wheelset
Also that wheel is holding up really well.

omg.
thank you for that video.

i'll tell you what, though - that wheel is probably fine. Mavic iOs and COmetes are incredibly rugged and durable. This similar incident is way worse (pedaling, skidding, concrete) - and the rider told me that the wheel is fine.

They named the long list:
News shorts: USA Cycling names track longlist for Rio 2016 Olympics | Cyclingnews.com

Given Bobby's upsetting situation, it looks like the men's team will be Duehring for the omnium and Baranowski for the keirin.

If I had to guess, the women's TP team will be Valente, Hammer, Winder, and Catlin, with Geist as the fifth (and Hammer also riding the Omnium). Not sure if they'll be able to field sprinters - I always get confused about how qualification works.

HA! I figured somebody would post Jack's vid before me.

Also, I've seen two different iO/Comete sets come through the shop after accidents, get carbon repaired by our local carbon expert, and go back out for years of use.
(most commonly, a flat or rolled tyre results in chipping wear along the rim edges)

i've heard stories of them getting gouged from crashes and just being patched with putty in the infield and put right back into service.

there's one guy at our track who's got a set and i was astounded at how thick the carbon on the Comete is. since it's hollow, you can see the thickness of it at the valvehole opening - and it's a meaty piece of work for sure.

I saw few people using Navigator N5 and Disc, but nobody left a review on this post.
Can someone tell me about the wheel.
I am just curious how they are.
Thanks

I had the N5 front wheel. I recently sold it as I was trimming down my bike stuff on hand (just had too much stuff). The quality was high. No complaints. Although, I've never owned or seen the disk, I'd expect it to be of similar high quality.

My team-mate just picked up an Io/Comete for racing this past weekend, and you can be sure I gave him some ribbing for it. Because I'm jealous.

I was honestly really impressed by the look and feel of the wheels, though. I just picked up the Shimano PRO version, and the Io/Comete feel like they're in a different league.

The PRO wheels are stiff, but you may as well be rolling around on round anvils.

Don't forget that the Zipp 900 is a tried and true workhorse disc. Easily found, readily available, reasonably priced.

Pretty sure the weight difference you allude to is due to the PRO's use of Shimano DA hubs, including the steel axle. I lust after those wheels...

Does anyone have any experience with FFWD Four-Ts? My home track is Kissena, and I'd like a spoked wheelset that is good in crosswinds (unlike the Five-T) and won't require a small loan (unlike iO/Comete). The shallow rim height appeals to me, I feel like they might spin up pretty quickly, much like Mavics.

I was going off of old information. The old PRO disc was almost a pound heavier than the Comete, with much of that being near the rim. The new Textreme Pro disc is actually 5g lighter than the Comete.
