Why Do you Choose to Not Wear Gloves?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why Do you Choose to Not Wear Gloves?

I've noticed many road cyclists, recreational and professional, who ride without gloves. What is the thought behind this? I can think of no negative to gloves, other than expense and need to wash them. Ben King is out of the TofC, for not wearing his.

I've always found padded half-finger gloves uncomfortable and they often make my fingers go numb. I sometimes ride with unpadded full finger gloves, especially if it's cold out, but have generally not used gloves for 20+ years, including quite a bit of racing.

I am comfortable with our without gloves, but I always wear them because it allows me to wipe off glass particles after riding through a patch of broken glass. I always wear the full-fingered versions.

Usually any ride over 20 miles or so, I tend to wear my padded gloves.

Comfort, and i don't plan on crashing. I lost all the skin on my fingers once from a 100mph motorcycle accident, but it grew back.
I do always wear them when i mountain bike. My hands will get raw mountain biking and dirty if i don't.

My hands are totally comfortable without them. Unless it's cold, I'm not wearing any.

I sweat a lot, so I am more comfortable with gloves because my bars don't get slick.

I much prefer a thin glove (fingerless pitards in summer) to a padded glove.

I don't wear gloves racing because it takes time in transition to get them on and off. And they're less aero.

I also don't wear them on the trainer.

I do wear them when actually riding.

Because they're not comfortable, not needed for padding on bikes with rubber brake hoods and cork tape with proper seat position (which limits the weight on your hands), and I rarely crash especially now that I've moved somewhere almost (I've seen it once in five years) without ice on the roads.

I wear full finger gloves all the time.

I also work medical at our local races.

Correlation?

Hey, gloves are like...20-30 extra grams to carry while pedaling uphill...I just ditched mine and increased my power output exponentially

My fingers get numb, but even with only the outsides of my bars wrapped, I don't experience discomfort on long rides without gloves.
