Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2014-2015-2016 Mileage Thread

2013 was a success, but got a bit laborious on my end. Keeping it simple this year by making it self-managed with a Google account. Access to your own tab should make it easier to modify your own charts.

To gain access:

Here's the sheet

Create a Google account without GMail here (using an existing address if you wish)

E-mail me at bikeforums41@gmail.com with the address you wish to use (strict privacy, used only to give you access to your sheet). I'll create your tab and grant access.

I will update the main page as often as I can to keep the graph tidy. This is not a competition, but a motivator to ride more.

Questions may be sent to bikeforums41@gmail.com

Thanks for getting this set up RT. Of course less than a month in I suffered a hernia, so now post-surgery I am on the mend. Hopefully I can be back on the road in a couple of weeks.

Looking forward to being able to edit. Not sure where the 198 lb weight number came from... I haven't been that heavy since 2011!

Yay, I can finally edit. One thing I noticed though is that the "Week Ending" is askew. Perhaps a result of continuing from 2013? Should be a Saturday or Sunday, not a Monday.

This isn't mileage but I did retake my ftp test yesterday. I'm pretty darn happy right now. It is still much lower than last year but a big improvement over a couple of weeks ago. I think a big part is being diagnosed with Asthma. I'm thinking the inhalers are helping a bit.

1/25 - 227 watts for 20 minutes at avg hr 170.
2/10 - 283 watts for 20 minutes at avg hr 169.

We're having the worst winter in years. This sucks not being able to ride outdoors as much as last winter. I'm about 200 miles behind where I was this time last year.

My doctor gave the go ahead for me to start riding again after my hernia surgery. Rode with my kids about 10 miles on Saturday, and did another 35 with a couple of buddies today. Five weeks off wasn't great for the stamina. Hopefully now I can get back on track!

I assume that indoor trainer workouts don't count? (Seems reasonable). All I have for 2014 is TrainerRoad work to the tune of 40 hours. My Garmin tracks 'mileage' but I am fairly certain that it is overstated as compared to the same effort/duration on the road.

I figured it would count, I've been on the trainer almost exclusively these last 5 weeks. Lucky to get one road ride a week with our weather. I've been using my trainer rides

Don't take my word for it. My post was mostly a question as I am a relative newbie to the 41. There are a lot of unspoken rules and traditions and I am trying not to put too many feet wrong.

Ha! I hear you, some real serious folks out here

I participated in this last year and while I can't speak for RT it seemed like this was just a fun little tracking program intended to tongue in cheek keep us honest to our goals (along with some gentle ribbing at times). It's what you make of it. In my case I figure since a watt is a watt then a mile is a mile!

Glad to hear you are alive and typing. Would you like me to add you to the sheet for self-maintenance on your miles?

Get well soon.

Anybody know how to update their age? I'm no longer 44 (I'm 45 until July). Also, anybody know how to keep the order on the main sheet sorted by mileage, like the 2013 was? I know how to sort it, but it always resorts to being unsorted. Not even sure what the order is.

I can't figure out how to enter my age. I am 63 until July 12, 2014.

Anyone see that durianriders supposedly rode 6190km in January alone? I guess it rocks when you try to live off youtube money and just ride all day long.

Haven't been riding in the rain today though.
