I am planning on going. Have a friend from Houston committed as well. Maybe others from outer States.

Two questions:
1. Where are best places to ride a few days before Cino to acclimate to the local gravel, etc? Any chance the Cino route signage out Thurs/Fri? Are Forest Service road maps available online? Is Whitefish or Kalispell a better home base (the days prior to Cino) for old friends to ride and recreate. Yes, I know Glacier NP is Close to the Sun Road ride (or something?) - but that's a post Cino choice for me.
2. Anyone driving from the Puget Sound area that could pick-up a bike in Issaquah and transport it both ways?, a 58cm frame.

1) I should get some routes posted on our website via ridewithgps - I have some local favorites that have decent gravel but not a ton of elevation in the 30 mile range. Either Kalispell or Whitefish are very accessible to these routes and to Kila where the ride starts. Whitefish is a ski/vacation town (think Boulder-light), Kalispell is more of a red-headed stepchild. Guess which is more expensive... Signage is not put up until Friday because we have had signs torn down at junctions in the past. Oddly enough, the rest of the signs are generally still up from years past once you get on the gravel.
2) If there is a possibility to put a bike on a train, that could be an option - there is a station in Whitefish and we could arrange pickup and dropoff.

1. thanks for possible rides, 30mi mixed with less elevation gain would be great training for travel weary sea-levelers arriving from outer states. And shorter that climbs then descends on gravel might not hurt as a practice session. Out n Back? Helps a buddy test an unfamiliar vintage bike, when accustomed to full susp for off-road.
2. I will Amtrak myself, but do not wish to travel with two bikes. Hoping for a full week+ trip. Plus - there should be a bunch of Puget Sounders going. @rccardr, @northbend, Portlandia (will there be an RV involved?), and many other BFers to gather with..... Who will plan the BF pre-ride day/night party? Not sure my hotel on Friday.

That weekend falls on my wife's birthday and as much as I love Cino, I love my wife even more.

I have clearance to go this year as part of our summer vacation. I haven't signed up yet because I want to see how I feel after next week's Tourica '23 silliness. If I make it through that without barfing up a lung or pissing everyone off, I'm in.

That may or may not be an inducement for anyone else to come.

While we don’t have dinner, we do have the Concours d’Elegance Friday evening - something that we started since the last time you attended.

if there are a few people you know, I suggest a VRBO - they can be cheaper than a hotel, especially if you’re staying a few nights before (they usually have minimum stays).

My frame will clear about a 30mm tire size. Any recommendations in the 28-30mm area??

Rene Herse, Gravel Kings and Paselas are commonly used. Can’t go wrong with any of those. Avoid ultralight casings.

I suggest you make sure they are new and it might be a good idea to bring a spare.

Don’t worry too much about it. This isn’t a race. You’ll be in good company if you do.

Well, it's gravel, pinch flats can happen.

If you've got a good line of credit at the bank, the offerings from Rene Herse can't be beat. I'm sure many will pipe in with their recommendations as well.

Gravel King file tread. 32mm on your rims mounts up to about 29-30mm.
Agree on avoiding anything ultralight, sidewalls can get damaged.
Also advise to use 28-32mm sized tubes, they seem a little loose when installing but don’t stretch out like a 25-28mm tube.

Can't add any new tire suggestions, other than to advise widest tires you have, and not too low of tire pressure to avoid the pinch flats as you'll undoubtedly experience some unavoidable hard hits. Two spare tubes and a patch kit advised. In 2021, ran into a fellow riding a fixed gear, pal was helping him fix his 6th flat! Think he won an award for that, an award I can do without!
