The spawn managed to drop his helmet down the equivalent of a flight of stairs, so a new squash bucket for him, and while we were there picked up gloves and a new tube for his bike.

These lights: Amazon.com : Bike Lights Front Back Rechargeable: 2022 VICTAGEN Upgrade Super Bright Bike Headlight USB, 3 LED Bicycle Flashlight, Safety Waterproof Lights for Night Riding Road Mountain : Sports & Outdoors
I'm going to be doing some night rural riding this summer and may need additional illumination. Arrived yesterday and I tested them last night. Not fancy features but the look and feel are quality/fine. I want to make sure its "4000 lumen" claim really is significantly better than my trusty Light & Motion Urban550. If so, it'll be a great deal. That test is probably tonight, though they're probably already impressive anyway to be keepers. (I paid 4X as much for the Urban550 years ago.)
P.S. Speaking of trusty, I still have and use my Blackburn Flea set regularly for just be-seen needs.

So, for example, that light claims it can do 4,000 lumens, highly doubtful, I bet it's much closer to between 800 to 1,000 lumens; they also say it will run for 6 hours, no, closer to 3 hours.
However, if you are aware of this going into buying it, for $22 a light running at even 500 to 800 lumens is a good buy, as long as you know that in 2 to 4 years you will have to buy another light.
Do not take that lifetime service guarantee to mean anything either, because by the time you pay to ship the light, pay for the service, and the shipping back you could have bought another $22 or so light for less than the cost of the shipping alone! China has strange warranties, but first realize that it's only warrantied for a year, but like all Chinese stuff you have to pay for shipping both ways, and to ship something to China and back is rather pricey, and I'm pretty sure it will exceed the price of a new light at $22 a light. China will charge very high fees for shipping too, I know this because a friend of mine bought a very nice Chinese made fishing rod for $99, the warranty is for a year, but it will cost $60 PLUS shipping to get the warranty to fix the rod?! Heck, the $60 plus the shipping fees is about $100 at least. Chinese warranties are worthless. Chinese do a lot of fishing, them and Japan make the finest fishing rods you can buy because they've been doing it for a very long time, fishing is a huge sport in those countries

still on my bike, but in sad shape. Been having issues with the piston getting stuck and I tried cleaning and everything else to get it to work properly. Finally gave in. After I get the new one I will try and completely take it apart and see what the issue is.

went tubeless on the road bike. GP 5000 TR S 30mm. ride quality much improved from the 26mm turbo cottons with tubes, not noticeably slower or faster, just smoother.

Stopped by my LBS after work last night to grab this gold and green CK headset I'd been drooling over for the last week or two:
Should look alright on that Serotta I posted in this thread last month.

A Campagnolo Record jersey that was too cheap on eBay to resist....
....a 10 speed carbon Campagnolo Record crankset, still the best looking carbon crank ever made in my opinion.
....and some cool vintage Vittoria World Champion cycling shoes.

age-related downgrade of the 'motor' has caused a number of other needed 'mods'...
last year I went from a std 53/39 to Mid-Compact 52/36, and that worked OK...
but not being a great climber, in an area where climbing is de-rigeur, is a handicap to begin with.
but I don;t wanna give up the gear spread of single step for non-climbing, so a 30+ cassette is not that desirable, for me.
... so thought maybe a smaller inner ring might be ok - in spite of Shimano saying 16 teeth diff. is max...
Bought a 34 ultegra inner ring, and swapped it out on Thursday... checked all that needed checking, went out for a 'recovery ride' on Fri, and a more spirited flat/roller hills ride yesterday - all good.
Today was the heavy climbing day, with a faster group of decent, some quite good climbers...
Awesome! what an improvement for the longer, steeper pitches ! 2 teeth on the inner ring ! staving off the grime reaper, one component at a time! LOL!
so, yes, you can have your cake and eat it too! 52/34 works really well with 12-27 (10 spd) and prolly a 28, on a Spesh Tarmac...one link pr removed...
I have a dropout extender on order - just to put the jockey cage a hair further away from those larger cogs...
Mid-Compact 52/36 swap of inner ring to 34

I bought a nice vintage Medici cycling cap from Bike Recyclry in Portland Oregon and it is even orange like my bike! Reasonable price and I got it in about a week even though it was a small purchase.

I use and like Bontrager Cambion SPD shoes on my road bikes and a hybrid. They fit me well and just work. Unfortunately, they are out of production. I called Tommy's Bicycle Shop in McMinnville, OR [i live in Alaska]. They asked around and one of their mechanics had a new, unused pair in my size at home. He was kind enough to sell me the shoes. I also bought one of Tommy's jerseys, which is a beautiful old school design.

I seem to have an addiction right now buying bikes and bike stuff. It's the only thing I want to spend my money on. Better than spending it on crack though!
Just bought this Park Tool Mechanic Starter kit. Going to try to learn how to work on my bike at home. First task will be to put on the Garmin pedals. Seems easy enough, until I looked at the instruction manual. Something tells me they are making it out to be a little more difficult than it should be. I'll find out soon enough.
