On the Trek 970, mine are the RH endurance variants. Good stuff. Only 50g more than the "standard" casing, but I thought it'd offer a tiny bit more peace of mind (seeing as how these things aren't heavily guarded against punctures, in the Schwalbe Marathon sense of things).

Beautiful ride quality, though.

A not recommended example of how I occasionally carry two sacks of groceries home using two heavy cloth reusable sacks tied up high and double knotted at the handlebar. The cloth bag handle usually unties pretty easily.

Balancing the load is important. Like I say not recommended but in a pinch it got me the 3 .5 miles home going slower than regular riding speeds and also riding very carefully.

I just don't want to ride my basketed
'grocery getter' bike some days but still need to pick up a few items.

1985 Schwinn Cimarron all dolled up. Funnest bike ever. Not the fastest.. I've got plenty of low slung drop bars, but I can actually look up and enjoy the view on this beast!

Newest parts, planet bike 60mm fenders and FC-MT210-3 crankset.
Front fender was too high, made adapter, braking is marginal
on 1.5 mile downhill 6-12%. Maybe shorter straddle cable would help
or V brakes. Hate to go to the trouble of V brakes and might be tight fit with
front rack.

I've been wanting to do this. I saw a Stumpjumper that had upright bars on it. It was in the window of a bike shop in Baton Rouge on Highland at Chimes. This was many years ago and I have wanted to do it ever since. People have been wanting high prices for Stumpjumpers lately so I thought I may use something like a Panasonic ATB.

I would rather have really wide tires even if it means a shorter wheel. My plan is to copy the look of it.

Great looking bike! If you want to stick with cantilevers, you might try Kool-Stop’s ebike brake pads, at least in the back. It’s a gray compound in metal carriers. I’ve had good luck increasing stopping power with them. I can’t tell the length of your brake arms from the side, but maybe a longer-armed cantilever set would provide more leverage. I’m trying mini v-brakes on my Trek Singletrack, which may be another option. I like the stopping power and that they are less squishy than standard v-brakes, but I think they would get in the way of fenders.

I agree; your straddle cable is way long. You want it as close to the tire, or basket bracket in this case, as you can get. Properly set up cantis will stop the bike.

Thanks, the brakes on now take double sided straddle wire and I only see these in 330 and 380mm.
330 is what I have on now. Looking at Tekto Oryx for price and looks. If they are good enough for
Spindatt they should work for me. Brakes at 3:50

I'm a subscriber. Funny thing is, I have that same bike, one year older (and for a year or two longer). I also have Tektro Oryx's and can verify that they stop the bike, while looking stylish, though my straddle cables only have fenders to clear.

Korina: nice looking bike, looks like some fat tires under those fenders.
Remembered I have a parts bike in the shed, going to try those brakes and if
not satisfied V brakes this winter when I have time. Top brake is original
and very short, middle BR C510 is rear and bottom BR M501 will be front.

Just took the first ride on the converted Super LeMans this week. Yep it has some major scratches but rides very well.

Super tall bike feels like you are riding in the clouds!

I like it. I really like the lug outlining.

As I've aged I've raised my handlebars quite a bit.

I'm a fan of Centurion.
I've had a half dozen or perhaps a few more over the years.
There's a couple I wouldn't mind having back.

Are those Microshift thumbies?

A set just arrived in the mail for my next build.

Yes - Microshift Thumbies - my first experience with them and the Centurion for that matter.
Overall very pleased with how it turned out as the whole bike was just $70 and it had new tires!
Total all in including the bike is about $260 with the shifters costing about $85 of that number.

cooperryder beat me to asking about the shifters and now I am curious about the brake levers.
Are those Litepro ultimate lever LP ultralights?
How do they work with your road brakes? Any issues?

Thanks for your kind remarks. I really wanted to ride sitting upright - so mission accomplished. This thread is great inspiration to me - A LOT of ideas!
The brake levers come in a few colors and are Bibike Ultralight Brake Lever - Aluminum Alloy 4-finger.

Actually the Brake Levers work quite well with the vintage Dia-Compe brakes (I did install some new cheapo pads) Eventually thinking about some Cool Stop pads for an upgrade.

Nice. Those copper fenders... were you actually able to find them in 26-inch size? I have a pair in 700c that I want to fit to a 1st generation Schwinn High Sierra (Pre-Cimarron). It's black, so the copper fenders will really class it up. But I figure I'll have to fit some pretty large tires to fill the gap, and I don't think these 50mm fenders are wide enough. Any advice?
