You have to throw away all your bikes and buy a gravel bike.

People no longer obsess about bike weight. And flat bar bikes are now cool. And some people don’t know how to drink from water bottles.

Go into hiding for another 5 years and maybe the ship will have righted itself by then.

QR isn't even close to over. It's still on the vast majority of new bikes. Thru axle is showing up because it's supposed to be better for disc brakes, although that appears to be controversial.

The industry continues to change for the sake of change with not much in the way of improvement. New axle types and widths. Ever changing bottom bracket standards. New shifting systems that are incompatible with old stuff. The list goes on. All marketing gimickry and planned obsolescence. People will argue with this post.

Yeah, kind of realizing that. Maybe technology peaked a few years ago.

Not surprising. Boats, jetskis, motorcycles, cars....everything is in short supply. When I dropped my bike off at the shop yesterday I was surprised to see only about 4 bikes in the whole place (all of them were $3000+).

This seems like exactly the kid of subject that would generate a 50 page thread on. I assume people still argue every nit-noid detail to the bitter end. Watched some videos on the thru-axels last night and don't see a real benefit. Never had an issue with the QR on my wheels.

Is my 2011 SRAM Rival shifter still considered sufficient?

That will depend upon who you ask. Some will tell you anything short of electronic shifting is insufficient. In my mind, if it gets the job done without a lot of fuss, it is sufficient.

QR Axles are slowly going away. Soon everything except low end entry level bikes will be thru axle.

As I predicted a few years ago...Disc brakes now dominate the Tour de France and the majority of road bikes now sold.

Five years ago I wouldn't have thought I'd own a road bike with disc brakes. Now I own one, I like the disc brakes.

However I'm having doubts now that like my refrigerator, they require roughly $80 to be spent on them annually. (2 water filters, 1 set of pads front and back)

Old dudes are threatened by any sort of innovation or change.

Oh wait, you were asking for what was new and different. My bad.

I don't think it's the rage. Only a select few are smart enough to have it figured out.
