I'd say that's a good start. Also make sure all bits are torqued to spec - pedals (with grease), chainring bolts (with Teflon tape), crank bolts, etc. Does the creaking occur both when seated and standing? Many sounds can perform a ventriloquist act with the BB/shell. Seat clamp and binder bolts are also worth checking.
Glad to hear that the chain went on vacation on the down-side of the hill rather than up-side. And without drama!

All's good here in NH, Cannondale Crit wise! Pulled the cranks, pedals and ISIS BB. Added more grease and torqued to specs. Reinstalled the chain and a SRAM connector link. Up and down the street a few times and all seems good. No more creaking.
While I was at it I installed the microSHIFT RD so I'm now running a fully matched shifting system. I'll try to get a picture up soon.

Threads on the BB cups, crank arm bolts, and pedal spindle posts. Also the splines on the ISIS BB. Finally where the BB cartridge fits into the left side cup, and the seat post. Everything is well lubed and ready to roll again.
So why will I probably ride this and not the R600 this afternoon?
Mrs. PB wants to go for a ride on the Rail Trail with friends this afternoon. Think "very leisurely." At least I'll be pedaling.

First ride of the spring and CRITter gets the honors. Tackled a 1.5 winding hill that I was pleasantly surprised to survive first time out. I love this bike. The descent was a little reserved this time due to the sections of pavement with cascading water from snowmelt.

I picked up this one from a used-bike shop the other day, paid a bit more than I usually would (paid 300) because of the rare model, low mileage and almost-total originality of the factory build, plus because I love the 7sp Athena gruppo.
Today is wet out, so will keep the first ride short after replacing the weird white non-stock handlebar.
I'll put a longer stem on while I'm at it since the bike is small for me and the 74-degree headtube angle should allow good neutral steering with a quite-long stem.
Seattube angle is laid back a bit at only 73 degrees, conspiring with the 56cm toptube to make this one feel small.

The first quick ride impressed me, seems the previous owner or the shop put a quite-decent tune-up on the thing, and the toe clips are adjustable (I almost never use clip pedals).

Revelation time. Criterium's are notoriously twitchy with that steep 74.25deg headtube angle. This is even more noticeable the first few early season rides. While reviewing geometry measurements at the vintagecannondale site I was intrigued by wheelbase measurements. I have a 54cm frame with the shorter 53cm's wheelbase of 38.17". The standard criterium wheelbase for the 54.5cm frame is 38.47. Interesting situation when considering the use of semi-vertical dropouts. Why the .30" difference? The aftermarket Sakae Fx aluminum fork is my guess. And yes, could also add to the beastly nature of this interesting frameset.

Well, I bought the frame I talked about in another thread. It was my first craigslist purchase. It was filthy and disgusting, and took a lot of cleaning, but with the exception of two paint chips it looks good now. An SR400.
I don't worry about groups, as I know what I usually like to put on my road bikes. This is running a friction only eight speed, it shifts nicely. I might have to get a new front derailleur, or go the easier route and put round chainrings on it. I really like the bio pace though.
Its a pretty stiff ride. To be honest, it feels almost exactly like my Schwinn 974 in how it climbs and rides. But as I really like the Schwinn, wont complain.
Its sort of wimpy to be running a triple, but look at the terrain in the picture. They built the town on as flat an area as they could find. And, with that super stiff frame combined with the extreme butter gear, I whipped up some really good hills pretty fast.
Working on a different seat post, as the shocked post is over a pound. Just got to do some more polishing on one I have. I am wanting to find some double pivots for it as well.
One thing I am a little worried about, is those cantilever drops. I am 220 pounds, and wonder about hitting bumps and the like.

@shipwreck, great looking C-Dale! Don't worry about your weight. It will be fine. While I'm now in the 220s, I rode my '93 R600 2.8 when I was pushing 300lbs without issue. I also have a '96 SR500 with Headshok (runs the same canti-stays), and again no issues when I was that heavy.
And have you ever seen NH roads? Winter does a number on them.
