Modern OEM Rubbery Handlebar Tape, Where Can I Get Some?
I checked out the 2020 Trek Domane yesterday and was blown away by how thick, rubbery and comfortable the handlebar tape was. Is that something the manufacturer specifies and/or supplies? I don't think I can swing a new SLR but maybe that handlebar tape is within my budget.

The CX version is textured while the other is smooth. They are both rubbery and thick but not sticky like the other popular yet insanely expensive rubber tape brands.

Or, for very little money - old inner tubes.
Having said that, I might just do my first wrap with innertube. I've been riding doubled up cloth tape the past few years. Did once wrap a bar with innertube and tried it. Liked the feel but too much grip for me. I want to be able to quickly slide forward to the brake, always. But cloth over the innertube should solve that nicely.

Most bike shops and the internet sell silicone bar tape. You can use it for an emergency roadside breast implant too.

Arundel Synth Gecko. 100% silicone. Stretchy, durable, can be washed and reused indefinitely with reasonable care. Doesn't take a set or permanent curl, so it can be rewrapped without regard to how it was wrapped before. No adhesive, the soft, gummy wrap adheres to itself. Really grippy and soaks up road vibration.
Not cheap at $35 but a good value considering I've rewrapped it several times this year. Even $10 Eclypse or similar cheap foam wrap would have cost more by now (and it's not good tape).
And I'm about to rewrap it again, over a second wrap of cheap bar tape (I'll probably recycle the cheap Eclypse wrap since it won't show).

I've been using inner tubes covered with cork ribbon for several years. Another thing I do is get rubber vacuum tubing from the auto parts store, and tape it to the front and back of the bar tops, to create a flat spot for my hands, then tape over that with cork ribbon.

I used inner tubes cut into strips to wrap like bar tape, for practice and added cushioning. It seemed to last a long time, but the carbon black made a mess. And as Lemond1985 said it gets slick with sweaty hands. I've used it as a base layer under the cosmetically nicer wrap.

My ratrod cruiser has innertube wrap for grips. Have not had any of those problems mentioned. Maybe it depends on the brand and type.
