Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

BTW if you want to play "detective" most people start to feel sick 2-4 days after exposure.

That’s good actually, now that you both have it your quarantine space can be the whole house instead of just the bedroom.

Rest up and feel better!

Canyon sent me an email today, titled "YOU REALLY DESERVE THAT BIKE!"

Do you think Mrs. Genejockey will take their word for it? Will she think I deserve a new Ultimate CFR Disc Di2? It's only $11,000! I rather suspect not. I believe I'll stop with MY Ultimate.

Does it really matter what Mrs. GJ thinks? Will she leave you over it? Will your world come crashing down around you?

You've been working hard for the past 40 years to support Mrs. GJ and the family, all for likely little to no thanks and a lot of expectation. Time to treat yourself right and reward yourself for all of that hard work and sacrifice for the others.

Just tell her that I said it is the right thing for you to do at the right time. All will be good.

Critically (to my mind) the excess-death charts are barely bumped of late. With the numbers of people unmasked in tight spaces, however much is vaccines vs antibodies in unvaxxed vs reduced seriousness... recently even AG is relaxing, and in Boulder we went unmasked in a few places occasionally.

Of course, winter is coming.

Funny thing is AG would literally buy me an LX600 if I really, really wanted. Mind, it would be teh dumbs because it would clobber the house, but it's an interesting juxtaposition to my and society's expectations. She didn't bat an eye at the TV.

I can't afford to be a Canyon employee.

Trying hard to be a brand ambassador though. Need one of those bikes in my garage so I can start making content.

We have been surprised that we have not heard of a single Covid case coming from the wedding two weeks ago, and that was with approximately 200-225 people in the room (guests, band, waiters, etc.). A few waiters wore masks, but no one else. I haven't had a mask on in months.

I agree it's tough to know how much of the decrease in virulence/morbidity/mortality is due to the newer strains being less pathogenic, and how much is due to improved immunity from vaccines and infections. It's probably both, but honestly I suspect it's more due to changes in the virus than immunity. Clearly both are a factor, and I suspect impossible to tease out the details in real time.

Right. I mean though, does it matter? The outcomes have dropped to not much above the background noise.

Mind, I'm still more conscious of just the flu now - y'all know I never liked flying and I'm not looking forward to going home, but I'll still probably mask on those forever. Already got seriously sick with something once...

May not really matter, although a prudent pessimist like me may always be concerned about new strains that might be more like the original ones and cause ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome).

I think wearing a mask on a plane/train/bus, or in a really crowded indoor event like a packed concert hall may be prudent for awhile longer.

AND one of them is a Canyon. But it's like 5 lbs heavier than the Ultimate CFR Disc Di2! (Seriously - 8.5 kg vs 6.16 kg)

Also, it's 10, though I think since the Schwinn Circuit now exists as a wheelset, a box of components, 3 frames, and 2 forks, I suppose it's reasonable to not include that as "a bike".

"Parts" does not equal "bike" until everything is fully-assembled and operational.

My wife might say that it's not worth it, but she wouldn't stand in the way.

A couple of years ago, we went to a store to get a pair of shoes. I saw the Domane in my size and the color I wanted, so I showed it to her. I told her that I planned to buy it if I ever found one, and would just hope she wouldn't get mad. Her response was, "Why would I get mad? If you like it get it!" We left the store with a pair of shoes, the Domane, four bottles and cages, and a new bike for her as well.

I've spent stupid money on cars and boats without any complaints from her.

Keeper!
