The price of new rubber

I haven’t been building much lately so quite the shocker when I saw top-end race rubber like Conti 5000s listed at more than $100 per tire! Gone are the days of stocking up on them (4000s) at $35. I’ve always put new tires on before it was really necessary because I love the ride. Don’t see that happening any longer.

I’ll add a PSA that Jensen USA has select tires at 20% off. Some are already discounted so tires like the Schwalbe Pro One Evo end up being around $68. Comparatively decent price for a fine race tire with a tan wall option.

Funny, I was just looking for some new gravel tires last night and noticed that prices have steadily crept up since my last shopping spree.

However, I wonder where you found that $100 price tag. I did a quick search and found 25mm Conti 5000s for half that price. Maybe not the same model?

You point is well taken though, prices have raised in general. Much of that is due to availability, not just of the tires themselves, but the raw materials on which they are based. Everything that goes into making tires is more expensive today as compared to just a few short years ago. I am in the construction industry, selling construction chemicals, and can vouch for the fact that both raw materials and finished goods have not only increased in price but lead times on some products have become impossible to deal with. And then there's trucking to deal with, so it never ends.

I have found recently when looking for good basic MTB or 700c gravel tires that a lot of the popular models are out of stock on nearly every site.

That sounds more like how mid-level model sew ups are priced these days, which have also gone up by quite a bit in the last two to three years.

Bike Closet appears to have good prices. Not sure on their inventory.

Clearance tires

Look around at the larger bike equipment sellers. Very often they have really good tires on clearance. Who cares if it has last years graphic on it? Honestly, I can't remember when I last paid full price for a tire.
