Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Show us pictures of your bike in the mountains...!

This thread discriminates against flatlanders.

We've had picture threads for water, oddball things, grade signs, and even grungy flat urban backgrounds. We need a mountains thread. And this is it. ( Actually there was a mountain photos thread in the beginning of 2009, but let's not zombify it. )

The rules are simple:
  1. Tell us where the photos are from!
  2. Give us bike porn, and give us scenery.

Here's my bike parked somewhere midway through the 26-mile climb up Mt. Lemmon in Tucson AZ last time we were there.

Note: for those that are Fred-sensetive, I swear that the seatpost-mounted bottle cages and bento box are only used when I climb Mt.Lemmon!

The previous mountain thread ... lots of great photos there from over the past couple years: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...grounds/page15

Many of mine are in that thread already.

First Col during my month riding in the French Alps August-Sept 2012. Col Du Glandon - riding the loop from Bourg D'Oisans, Col de la Croix de Fer, Col du Telegraphe and the Col du Galibier...

Alpe D'Huez - 58:40 to the TDF finish (including having to roll walking pace through the Friday street market in the resort)

First ride across the border into Italy - Col du Petit St Bernard

Second at the Col Agnel

In preparation for the trip, I had to train through the southern hemisphere winter. Closest longer climb to Melbourne is Mt Donna Buang 16.8km 1080m vert which is also our nearest snow play area. Over 8 training rides, I climbed this hill 23 times!

Photos from one of my days on the mountain.

Earlier in the day

By the time I made the top on the third repeat, the weather had turned.

That's bad ass! How long did it take you? Where'd you sleep, and what did you eat? I don't see any touring gear.

Heh...sure:

Frame is custom designed & handbuilt by Carl Strong of Bozeman MT (see https://www.strongframes.com). TIG-welded steel (a proprietary blend of True Temper and Reynolds, I think) with an EDGE 2.0 carbon fork and S&S Machine Works stainless steel travel couplers. Paint is powdercoated "Tucker Orange" by Spectrum Powderworks. Shimano Ultegra 6700 gruppo, DT Swiss MonChasseral 1450 wheels, Fizik Aliante saddle (I think it was the Gamma Versus version in that picture, but I changed it to the Kium version recently), Speedplay Frog titanium pedals. I took delivery of it at the very end of 2010. More details in this thread:

It doesn't look like much of a mountain, and it was only a 1,500 ft climb, but when you are a weakling like me and you have to do 4 of these climbs in a row, and when you haven't seen a single car/cyclist/pedestrian for 2+ hours, it starts to feel like you bit off more than you can chew.

Yeah, it's hard to carry touring gear on a Roubaix. We did the 1,100 mile trip in 11 days pretty much hugged the coast the whole way. So we had a chase vehicle that we met up with every 20 miles or so for fresh water and food. And the chase vehicle was towing a 36' fifth wheel trailer so we 'camped' in that every night. The year before we did a similar trip from Louisville, KY to Philadelphia (700 miles in 7 days) but decided to up the mileage this year.

Mt biking this past August at the Yellow Stone Club in Big Sky Mt. We took our bikes and were riding down the snow.

It was a little unnerving as we were riding up and above the treeline to come across some fresh steaming bear skat!
