especially if as noted in the report, they had too many crab pots, too much bait and modifications thar added weight too.
"In all, and not including the substantial weight of ice accumulating on deck, the boat itself was laden with over 45,000 pounds beyond the boat’s specified stability load."

"Ice accumulation during the last few hours that
Destination remained buoyant were judged to be as high as 1.6 inches of buildup per hour. Newfoundland’s Memorial University modeled the day’s sea and weather data to gauge the probable ice buildup on Destination that resulted in her capsize and disappearance. The university’s model suggests that in such conditions roughly 5,951 pounds of ice could have built up every 15 minutes."

thats a heck of a lot of weight building up

I can't remember the last time it was 60F/15C around here ... likely it was early November, so roughly 107 days without seeing 60F, and it'll likely be mid to late March before we get to see that in my neighborhood.

How cold is it? ... Just wanted to share that today I was reminded that a hail storm can quickly hammer your body temperature down if you're not properly prepared. Similar to the wind chill factor.

Also, somehow I feel warmer in winter than e.g. cool early spring mornings. I believe it partly has to do with the type of season and how your body & mind prepares for it. Dunno.

I had to wait at a train on the way home and needed to keep my mask up even with a partial tailwind. Also had to zip my jacket all the way up for the first time during the ride, its quite rare for me to zip my jacket up more than 2/3 in the winter unless going into a headwind. 3.5 minutes standing still seems a lot longer with a 30 km/h wind in the winter.

I'm probably going to have to wear tights and a jacket for tonight's ride. Also have to cover over the tomato plants due to a frost warning.
