Raspberry Pi Controlled Smart Trainer
I had a Raspberry Pi 4 lying around unused after a project, and decided to see if it could control my Tacx smart trainer using SYSTM software. I had an extra monitor, so expenses were fairly small - SD card, USB-C power brick, Pi case, HDMI cable.
Here's what I followed:
Installing the system was a bit fiddly, but not too bad.
I've just used it on one 45-minute workout, but I think it's going to be fine. I noticed twice the screen froze for a second; that could very well have been the poor wifi in my garage. Downloading the workout prior to starting should resolve those issues. I feel like the cadence updates less frequently than when controlled by my laptop, but not enough to be an issue.
