Just above the first post, on the right, there is a drop-down menu marked "Thread Tools". Drop that down and click "Subscribe to this Thread...".

I have subscribed to a number of threads of the years and only get notifications of activity sporadically...has anyone else experienced this?

I have subscribed to numerous threads and have never gotten a notification. I assume it's user error but I'm not sure what/how.

Take a look at the options in the next page. You may not have specified email. I don't get email of updated threads. I just visit the page of subscriptions to see what's new. I bookmarked that address.
