Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

last summer was attacked by bees - and bats

was cutting grass at dusk - rode under a tree and hit a bees nest ... might have been hornets (?)

fell off the tractor when I caught my leg on a lever as I jumped off - then stumbled to my feet and bats were then flying / diving at me - maybe to scoop up the bees

I've also driven over bees nests that were in holes in the ground - neighbor told me they might have been 'bald face hornets' (?)

(later placed firewood in the hole and added some two stroke fuel and burned them out)

My MIL was bit by a bat that was in a garden hose container. Ended up having to go through the rabies shot protocol. She's now batsh*t crazy.

Nah. The server tried to sell me on Patron, but I'm too savvy to have Big Tequila push that faux high-end stuff on me.

Mrs. GeneJockey has a thing for bats. She even got the rabies vaccination series so she could do this...

Between intermittent fasting on my road trip days and dealing with the gorging schedule with the in-laws, I'm really frustrated with the interruption to the tick-tock cadence of my morning BMs.

Just thought you'd all like to know.

The most unusual Chaparral was the 2J. On the chassis' sides bottom edges were articulated plastic skirts that sealed against the ground (a technology that would later appear in Formula One). Two fans adapted from a military tank engine were housed at the rear, driven by a single two-stroke twin-cylinder engine.[5] The car had a "skirt" made of Lexan extending to the ground on both sides, laterally on the back of the car, and laterally from just aft of the front wheels. It was integrated with the suspension system so the bottom of the skirt would maintain a distance of one inch from the ground regardless of g-forces or anomalies in the road surface. The skirting produced a zone within which the fans could create a vacuum producing downforce on the order of 1.25 to 1.50 g when the car was fully loaded (fuel, oil, coolant).
My Dad took me to Laguna Seca when I was a kid and we watched Jim Hall win with that car.

I get a lot of 'seat time' - cut a lot of grass / around 3 acres

takes around an hour per acre (?) - so around 2.5 to 3.5 hours

My wife and her brother just had a pow-wow to strategize my MIL's 100m walk from a bench to the museum entrance. There was debate as to whether going back to the parked car would save 25m or so.

Getting old doesn't seem like much fun. I'm of half a mind to try avoiding it.
