Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? -child seat on the back of my Mom's Apollo Mk1
-Red Tricycle
-blue 16" wheeler with white banana seat
-Red Raleigh Roadrunner? .. it had a top tube that could be lowered to make it a girls bike
-1988? Yellow BRC Voyager. First MTB in the neighbourhood. 12 speed, triangle bar stem combo
- 1992 marble Grey Nishiki - DX components, Suntour fork? .. upgraded heavily through the 90s.. until eventually I was using it for trials and broke the rear triangle
- 1999 Basic Bicycle Company BMX. Hot custom freestyle rig from a Vancouver builder, had a Nankai freecoaster, too small for me.
- 2001 K2 rake BMX, 21" top tube, 14mm axles, upgraded as I learned street.
- 2004 Macneil Deuce Deuce, built up will all odyssey components
- My mom's apollo, first just fixed up 10 speed, then single speed, then fixed. Too small for me.
-Bianchi conversion, which I still commute on every day
- 2007 Seshin Liger BMX, mostly Odyssey parts from the Macneil
-currently building a hillclimb chopper out of the K2 Rake front triangle, see alt bike forum

these lists are fun.
THeres a few more bikes in there that I purchased and built for specific people, but they were never 'mine'.

I'll assume disassembled/unridden bikes still count because there aren't a lot of good bikes to find in WV and I haven't been collecting for a long time (but you could never have this thread in the classic and vintage forum).

-red trikey that I rarely used
-awesome black and yellow plastic bigwheel - used to spend hours sliding around the driveway or basement on this....completely wore through the wheel
-chrome Murray bmx - training wheels bike
-orange and black Huffy bmx - big deal because it had a hand break
-24-inch Diamond Back - black w/ different colored, subtle metalic blobs....heavy
-gold/black 'BMX' brand - 'worked on' to death after about three weeks (but my first restoration project?)
-~1996 Cannondale F500 - low end components but love it, yellow and black like the bigwheel....still the bike I grab most often
-1987 Centurion Ironman - the pink and yellow version; my 'ride long distances, on the road, quickly' machine.
-1984 Peugeot PSVN10, fixed - love the fit and ride, but the bike has issues that make me constantly debate thoroughly restoring and replacing; definitely the second most ridden, moving towards first
-1978 (or so) Peugeot UO-8 Mixte - white/black and in pieces at the moment - got to replace some worn out French parts on the other Pug; good shape, but not marketable in my neck of the woods
-1973(?) Raleigh Super Course - junkyard find....no fork, but couldn't pass up a free 531 framed bike
-1958 Turnier - German-made(?) cruiser, another junkyard freebie. I can't find information about anything but the rear hub

- mongrel bmx bike my family and neighbors pieced together for me. I think it had handlebars from a dirt bike (motorcycle) and had foam duct taped around the tubes instead of pads. i dont know what eventually happened to it.
- redline bmx bike. this was my main bike for years. eventially a kid across the street stole it and then moved away, but it was nearly unrideable by that point.
- sekai bmx frame I built up into a complete bike. a neighbor kid borrowed it for a while and then cracked the frame
- specialized rock hopper, my first geared bike. rode this one quite a bit. ironically it was mostly around the city. stolen years later when my roomate left it in front of the house
- raleigh hybrid, 2003 or so model. this was my "get back into biking" bike that I hardly ever rode. sold to a friend
- unknown piece of **** mountain bike that was way too small for me, broken shifters, bad brakes, and a piece of metal jutting out of the seat ready to castrate you. i got it free from a relative for burning man, and believe it or not, someone stole it there.
- raleigh super course ten speed circa 1970 vintage. this bike had been passed around a few people. I got it for free and found out it had a campy c-record hub on the front. the rest was stock or unremarkable. converted it to single speed.
- univega custom ten, fixed gear conversion I built up from just a frame.

still own the last two.

5. Another fully rigid taiwan-made MTB. Pretty decent ride with Deore. First bike I built. It's getting really lonely in a corner because of:
6. My self-built fixed conversion. See sig.

This is too much fun and thought provoking, so here goes:

-About five or six big wheels (the last of which ended up floating three towns down the river before my Pop snagged it out for me--Yes, they do in fact float!)
-Raleigh Choppers of various persuasions (one I recall clearly was an aztec gold colored road rocket!)
-Several cobbled together versions of Stingrays including a home-made chopper that my Pop fitted with double extension forks and the neighborhood kids went completely gaga over.
-A 1980 Coast to Coast hardware store bike that I believe was a Huffy with a thickly padded flat banana style seat. I rode this bike till the cogs were little nubbins (this was my first rebuild project)
-My first ten speed, a new AMF "Scorcher" (can you feel the heat?!) bought on special for %50 off at Target for $50...the frame must have been made of lead but this was the first bike that I ventured far from home on so I have to give it some credit.
Funny story about this one: I hated it so much that I began to abuse it and go off road (seriously off road) until it was in pretty sad condition. When my parents took it to the LBS for a tune up out of mercy, the quote was $100 and they were furious. The LBS advised the best thing was to just trade it and buy a new Raleigh (I loved this plan) but instead, my folks decided to teach me a lesson and fix the bike. They did. I have treated every bike since with TLC.
Two years later.....
-My first semi-nice bike purchase was a fiasco beginning with a Raleigh Wyoming in deep blue-green (returned a week later for...
-1984 Raleigh Technium (redefined the flexy BB--like a frame made from Spaghetti) sold shortly thereafter
-1986 Schwinn Prelude: World domination was within my grasp when I was on this beauty! Still have it, currently on Ebay as I write this.
-1991 Giant ATX-760 in Black Chrome full Deore LX with the ubercool Farmer John rear / Cousin front tire combo. Fits me like a good pair of blue jeans. Still have this baby, may sell it soon.
-2005 Gary Fisher Tassajara Disc: mostly stock with specialized bar overendz and an indie saddle.
-2006 Felt F65 (my new magic carpet) with Campy Veloce Skeletons, and a serfas cosmos

First bike I remember had training wheels. I learned to ride w/out them because I broke them off in a week. Over the years as a kid it was mostly hardware store quality mt bikes(thus, broke soon after).
in 2005 i took up cycling again, mostly to make the commute to work a lot faster.
I picked up an 80's Peugeot px10. I paid $115 for it and probably put well over $500 into just to keep it riding. (ended up just stripping it and giving the frame away)
Bianchi Premio(sold, too small)
Singlespeed coaster converion on a old Raleigh frame(seat tube broke off the BB housing)
Fixed gear conversion, old Centurion frame(currently made into a polo bike/back up bike)
Cecil Walker Track frame(amazing bike. my fav frame I've had, but it was a little small, so I traded it to my friend that had been trying to buy it off me for a while)
Davidson Trackster (what I am currently riding as my street bike)

1) Some old school vintage bike my mom bought for 20$ when I was five years old
2) Sears BMX when I was about 10-----loved it.
3) Talisman mountain bike I bought with money from my paper route---it is a Canadian company, junky
4) Kona Hahanna I bought when the Talisman got stolen----good bike for the money
5) Fell in love with a GT Karokaram and traded the Kona plus cash for it---still have it
6) Marinoni road bike with full Dura Ace---purchased from a messed-up co-worker of mine, I had no use for it and only bought it out of sympathy---it is long gone, sold for $400, I had no idea of it's value then
7) Miele Una LS---bought used for $80, I wanted to see if I would like commuting on a road bike; loved it
8) Gardin road bike---very nice bike with full 105 but too small for me; the parts went onto the Miele
9) Ciocc road bike---wicked bike, abandoned on a post and stripped of everything, it lay rusting for months until I got up the balls to take a blow torch to the lock; still have it and it now has the 105 on it
10) Colnago Sport road bike---purchased with making a fixie out of it in mind, I still have the frame, pics are in my sig
11) Miyata 912 road bike---top of the line Miyata with full Shimano 600 group came my way, I only bought it for the groupo; nice though, pink/pearl colour and it was damned fast
12) Concorde road bike---picked it up for a great price and rode it as a commuter; loved it but sold it after a year as I had no room for it
13) Specialized Roubaix Elite Triple---I decided it was time for a really nice bike and I bought this bike for a great price; Al/carbon fibre frame with full Ultegra, it is an awesome, awesome bike
14) GT GTB track bike---I liked riding fixed enough to get a true track frame and this one came to me at a great price; pics are in my sig
15) Razesa road bike---beautiful Spanish road bike made of Columbus SLX tubing with a full 600 groupo, this bike is very fast and tight
16) Bianchi Trofeo road bike---purchased cheaply on CL just because it was a good deal; I decided to make it into a hybrid and I gave it to my friend for his birthday
17) Bianchi road bike---bought to be my winter beater fixed ride, so far it is nice but the frame is really sluggish compared to my other bikes, I may sell it in the spring

I currently still own the Ciocc, Razesa, Roubaix, GT Karokaram, GT GTB and the Bianchi plus the Colnago Sport frame----I have way too many bikes.

1. Red tricycle - Fell apart whilst riding it when I was five
2. 1974 Red banana seat bike - The bike I learned to ride on. Still rusting in our old Boston apartment
3. 1978 Brown/gold Motobecane Mirage - My reward for making the honor roll in high school ,fake leather bartape - sold.
4. 1986 Peugeot Triathlon - Super Vitus frame, 105, cost $500.00 in 1987 from Harris Cyclery, my first nice road bike , commuted for four years from Newton to Boston on it - sold way too cheaply.
5. 1989 Fisher AL-1 Blue - First mountain bike, toured 14 days on it from Boston to Delaware, ovalized headtube, replaced under warranty, then sold to a friend who is still riding it.
6. 1990 SuperGo Access MTB White splatter paint, Binda straps, it was god-awful heavy, sold to a friend who raced it one season then sold to his brother.
7. 1992 Bridgestone MB-2 Purple - Raced and ridden 3 three years before fatal ovalized headtube. Best bike I have ever owned. I still miss it. Sent back to the factory?
8. 1993 Bridgestone MB-1 Pearl - Replacement frame for the MB-2. Ovalized headtube.
9. 1993 Bridgestone MB-1 Pearl - Replacement frame for the ovalized MB-1. Crashed it a week after getting it back. Headtube bent back but I still used it to ride around town. Hanging in my garage.
10. 1990 Ben Davidson White - Bought at Veloswap with a Ti Ibis stem. Pimped out with Mavic cranks, Brooks B17 Ti, Phil Wood wheelset, Carradice bag. Stolen from atop my car. Burn in hell bike thief. I still have the front wheel.
11. 1995 Klein Fervor Blue - Bought as frameset to replace the MB-1. Last year before the Trek buyout. My current MTB but it's no MB-2.
12. 1993 Bridgestone XO-1 Pumpkin orange - Bought used as frame/fork in 1995. It was too small but I kept it until last year anyways. Sold.
13. 1986 Bridgestone RADAC Silver - Bought at a local swap for $150.00 in 1997. Wasn't crazy about the ride so swapped it with fellow BOB for his wife's Paramount. Yes, I got the better deal but he was cool with it.
14. 1984 Schwinn Paramount Green/Purple chameleon - Received as whole bike in exchange for the RADAC but I never got comfortable with it. Sold the frame last year.
15. 1984 Bridgestone RB-1 Blue - Bought in 1997 on eBay for $200.00. Solid riding bike even though it was too big for me. Loaned to a friend for a year and it got him into cycling. Sold it last year to someone who was going to turn it into a fixed ride.

In addition to the Klein I still own these:

16. 1994 Bridgestone RB-1/7 Red - Bought last year to replace my old RB-1. Hanging in the garage waiting for a rebuild.
17. 1989 Bridgestone MB-3 Red - Bought last year for my wife so she could try off-road riding. Currently my winter studded singlespeed ride until the spring when I will rebuild for her.
18. 2006 Surly Crosscheck Green - Bought last year as frame/fork. My first new bike in over ten years. Currently built up as my do-everything bike with rack, fenders, Carradice. My first cross bike.
19. 198? Panasonic DX4000 Red - Bought complete for $60.00 last year. Converted to fixed-gear commuter. I ride this the most right now.
20. Schwinn Frontier yellow - Junker frame I got for $10.00 (and I still paid too much). Repainted with one can of yellow Rustoleum. A 1x7 townie used to pull the kid trailer and get groceries. My wife's favorite bike.
21. 2000? Bike E AT Recumbent - Got this (used) for my wife after she complained about riding the 'normal' bikes. Not sure if we will keep this but it is fun for short flat rides. Like a chopper.
22. 197? Centurion Super Elite white - Bought as a frame/fork to replace my MB-1 townie. Currently a singlespeed foul-weather commuter with a basket, fenders, rear rack/trunk, sprung Brooks.
23. Coming up, the special-edition BF IRO. It will be the first track frame for me.
