ah those were the days...send off a check, wait 6 or 7 days for the check to get there and another 7 days for the check to clear and in 6 or 7 more days you would have a new whale oil lamp...and we never complained if it was 30 days and no way to track it either just eagerly wait for the package to arrive...

Performance Bike/Nashbar, JensenUSA, Universal Cycles. LBSs and REI for tires and saddles. For the few bits of bicycle-specific clothing its Aerotech Designs (bike shorts and gloves); their stuff just fits me better and lasts longer.

I try to use a local bike store first. After that it's usually Performancebike.com, Amazon, or e-bay.

I have confidence that Vince will still be around in 6 years.

They have let me go wander through their "storage" looking for shifters for my '68 Sprite S5 hub which I thought was pretty amazing. Didn't find any though. I did buy a bunch of NOS double ended brake cables for it.

google.

I cant imagine going to a specific site to see what they have as it is limiting and the reality for over 2 years now is many sites have limited stock(size, color, etc).
Just google it and then click links based on that.

Since I have been in need of Sturmey Archer parts I have been using Modern Bike more often and like to do one stop shopping to get the other things I need. I had a question recently and called them. They picked up and person that I spoke to sounded like a bike mechanic rather than just a rep' and was able to answer the question completely.

I also use BikeTiresDirect, Bell's Bike Shop in Phila. and Jenson.USA . I sometimes check Walmart since they work like Amazon with third party sellers.

This is where I have a problem. I recently was defrauded through my Amazon account. I had a Canadian account and some F***** hacked in and opened a US account and ordered 3 expensive Garmin smartwatches to be sent to me. Then this a$$hole reported that they had not received the watches and demanded replacements to be sent to an address in Toronto almost 500 km from where I live. I will never again give a third market vender my credit card information. I got my money back and Amazon cancelled my account. Good riddance I say

I get a lot through Amazon

I always seem to have some C&V project or another going on -- cheap cables, bar tape, inner tubes, etc etc

For high endy stuff i check The Pro's Closet as sometimes they get new close out stuff and blow it out for a good price --

Mail order, Universal Cycles almost exclusively, for everything else, I’ll just drive to Ben’s, Yellow Jersey, or Bikesmiths.

This is a good point. I don't know. I've ordered an item from Walmart direct and was able to return it. But it would be different with a third party vendor and I haven't had to try that yet.

A couple others have not mentioned (though I've used some of those, as well):
westernbikeworks.com
sierratradingpost.com (for clothing and some gear, not parts, though)

With the current pound to dollar you may want to look at some of the UK outfits like Wiggle, Merlin, Chain Reaction etc

Yeah, I’ve wandered around their storage and stock areas, quite impressive. Vince has personally helped me with a few bike issues, great guy and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to CV bikes.
