Looking for Ti birdy leads

Hi All, would you happen to know someone who owns the older titanium Birdy that was once offered by NYCewheels? I am interested in buying one second hand, from someone in the US if possible.

I did see those, but I have not seen them being offered in the US unlike the earlier model unfortunately.

It's a terrible admission, but sometimes I wish the chinese makers of Ti Brompton frames would also produce Birdy frames...

I don't think anybody in the US has Birdys in stock. I was talking with David of bfold this spring and he told me Pacific would air mail a bike on order but he didn't have one in stock (he may have gotten one since). I think the only other Birdy reseller in the US is Thor (?).

In any case, I expect your best lead would be to email Pacific directly if you're looking to buy a new one. Birdys in general are so rare that I wouldn't know where to start on a used Ti model.

I would rather avoid dealing with customs, hopefully someone has a lead for an older gen in the US!

Besides those mentioned, who were, once upon a time, US Birdy dealers?

You can do some of the leg work yourself. Set up RSS feeds or automated searches - I like www.searchtempest.com - and see what comes up nationally. You can also post WTB classified ads looking for one that way.

If that doesn't work, your best bet is overseas. Don't be afraid of customs in that instance, because otherwise, how will you get one?

You can try Mobic bikes. They are based in Fremont. They don't have any in stock in their shop but if you contact them, they can order for you:
https://www.mobicbikes.com/collections/birdy

Not sure about the TI model but you can always ask them.

I know you don't want to deal with importing and duties but if you want a new TI, you can reach out directly to Pacific Cycles. Max Yeh seems very helpful. They can ship to you but you pay the freight and import duties.
https://store.pacific-cycles.com/index.aspx
You may need to use Google Chrome to translate their web site.

You could get adventurous and vacation in Taiwan, buy the bike and pack it into your suitcase.

I tried many avenues to buy a Birdy and ended up getting a used standard disc Birdy monocoque and am happy with it.

You want the Birdy made of titanium or the Ti color Birdy? I have one Titanium Birdy and might consider to sell it if the price is right. I had two but sold one to someone from HK last year for $6,000. If you think that's the budget you have for a Titanium Birdy, PM me.

BTW, I am in bay area.
Sorry, no.

For that much I'd rather get the modern 2019 model and deal with customs.

Crazy that some people ended up with two of these...

Still looking; if anyone else has a lead please get in touch.

As far as I know, they only made 250 of the 3rd generation Birdy Ti. If you really want to consider the new model you should contact Pacific Cycles directly. I doubt you are going to find a local dealer carrying it. Why not head over to the Birdy bike thread. Someone posted pics of their new Ti Birdy. You can always inquire where they bought theirs from.

https://www.bikeforums.net/folding-b...l#post21057709

Another option is to try to buy one from Japan. I saw a few of the older Ti models go on sale occasionally. Not all the sites that help you purchase the Japanese products from Yahoo Japan will ship a bike outside of Japan. Those that do will charge a lot for it. Japan has a huge Birdy user/ fanbase. I gave up on getting a Birdy from Japan but you may luck out.

The problem is all the 2019 model were sold out long before they started to ship.
I know there were only 200 units. Most of them were sold to HK and Japan. I have two but I didn't bring them to the States.
If you can find one for less than $7,000, you should buy it without any hesitation.
One thing you have to know is the weight of Ti Birdy is same as the regular Birdy. That's really no weight advantage or anything else.

While I can see how demand for Birdys in Asia is relatively high, such is not the case here in the US; in fact, I'm sure there are very few instances when a Birdy has sold for $4 or 5k here. Bromptons (and to an extent Moultons) are far more desirable, and definitely retain their value.

A few years ago I was actually offered a Ti Birdy for $3,500 locally (it was just the frame), which I did not purchase because I also had a great offer for a Moulton AM, which I favored with no regrets. I do like Ti bikes though as they are corrosion resistant and it's possible to repair them, unlike aluminum frames (but like stainless steel).

Best case scenario, I run into another offer like that; worst case I'll invest my money on something else. While I appreciate the advice to import one, I rather buy locally. If anyone eventually has a lead, please do reach out!

I know the OP is not interested in purchasing Birdy Tis from overseas but since this is about sourcing Birdy Tis and someone else who's interested may pop in this thread, here's a lead on some:

Facebook Post " data-width="500" data-show-text="true" data-lazy="true">
Facebook Post " class="fb-xfbml-parse-ignore">Facebook Post

Looks like a Taiwanese Bicycle shop that sells the Birdy Ti and customizes them with Colorplus components. They include contact info but no pricing.

Edit- looks like I can't post facebook links of the bike shop. So do a Google search for Wun Pang Bicycle Birdy Ti and it'll pop up within the first 5 search items.

Wun Pang is located in Hong Kong, and I believe the Titanium Birdy this year (150?) were all sold out before release.

I didn't realize they were in HK. I thought I read Taiwan. Anyway, on their post on their Facebook page, fifth post from the top, they provide descriptions of the custom TI bikes and provide contact info for purchasing. Conceivably, they may have purchased a few to customize and resell. I posted the translated text below. No clue if they ship overseas. The photos show the 2019 model but the text says 10th year anniversary edition which refers to Colorplus and not the 10th year anniversary Birdy with 406 wheels. .

Ya, I just checked the post, this is to sell Colorplus 10th year anniversary group set, and just used the titanium birdy as a demo bike.

I saw a post on the Birdy global community on Facebook which had a photo of 5 Birdy Tis in front of the bike store sign. Got all excited and searched for them before finding that post on their FB page. Oh well, somewhat deflated now. Not that I could ever be in the market for one.

Hah I bet there's got to be a few Birdies in garages gathering dust here in the U.S.; it is just a matter of figuring out how to reach out to those owners...

That's not true, I bought mine in August directly from Pacific Cycles Max Yeh.

Its the one pictured in the Birdy thread:

It was upgraded since that picture
