Tire replacement

My wife asked me to buy brown tires, but it has been very difficult to find with the same size. Her bike has 26 x 1.75 tires but the best I could find is 650 x 35A, which I think is 26 x 1 3/8. I don't even know what that means. How do you translate 1 3/8 to a decimal number and are the tires compatible with the wheel where the 26 x 1.75 are currently?
Thanks

They're totally incompatible. Don't buy the 26"x1-3/8" tires.

By "brown" are you thinking of tires with tan sidewalls? There are a number of 26"x1.75" tires available like that, Panaracer Pasela for one.

This should explain it in a nutshell. just remember 559mm is the important number.

There are at least half a dozen mutually incompatible, nominally 26" tire sizes. Your tire marked 26" x 1.75 is probably a 559mm bead seat diameter. Look for an unambiguous ETRTO/ISO tire size designation, which should look something like "44-559" where the smaller number is the nominal width of the tire and the larger number is the bead seat diameter. Bicycle rims can accept a range of tire widths, so the smaller number doesn't have to match exactly, but the larger number, the bead seat diameter, must match or the tire won't mount on the rim.
