Mixing shimano groupsets
Hello,
I need to get a double FD, double crankset, and a left double shifter (all shimano).
I would like to get second-hand parts, and this will most likely end up mixing groupsets.
Would any double shifter work with any double FD (all shimano) ? I'm looking for internal cable housing so it wouldn't be a super old shifter.
Any 10 speed 50/34 crankset will do the job ?
Thanks

In ten speed, 4700 is the only real problem. I would stay away from Tiagra.
I have mixed and matched 105 5700 FD, RD, and shifters, ultegra 6700 shifters and RD, 9 speed XT RD, and cranksets from various manufacturers. They all mix very well. I would recommend staying with Shimano for crankset and FD. The brake pulls are not exactly the same across the groups, but I think that very few would notice a difference.

Be careful looking for second hand parts. If you are relying on eBay and other places, then my experience with them has been every time I wanted to consider used parts for a bike, the sellers wanted virtually the same price as new stuff.
I could always search the online retail bike parts vendors and find someone with a deal on brand new parts cheaper than the eBay asking for used.
