Question for Miyata 1000 owners

Hey

I've been looking to buy a miyata 1000 to replace the old one that I unforunately had to sell. Have a really promising lead today, got sent some pictures but the frame seems a bit off.

My question is, you know that loop thing on the right chainstay, is it removable? I'm looking at the pictures for a 1991? Miyata 1000LT and the loop thing seems to be missing. The bike seems to be in pretty minty condition.

I've attached pictures.

Thanks

on my mid-80s One Thousand the chainstay protector is welded / brazed on.
I supposed if a person preferred tape to the loop they could snip it off with side cutters - and a kung-fu grip!
does your second pic show a couple of dots on the the chainstay? optical-delusion?

hard to see but mine is there...

It does look like 2 holes and being snapped off. I just find that very odd.

I think someone simply cut it off. My 1000 has that loop, but it's really messed up from constant chain slap and I'm contemplating whether or not I should ditch it.

Not removable on my 1990 LT. But I think it's not a big problem if it was removed.

Looks to have been cleanly snipped off at least. Potentially looks better than it did if the protector that was there was very worn out.

That looks to be a 1989- and built pretty cool.

It looks like it's been broken/cut off. Like everyone has said- it's not much of a big deal- it gets beat up- but 99% of bikes out there don't have any sort of stay protector.

That’s the route I’d go if it were mine. It’s a good look in general and covers the holes if they bother you.

The 89 has indexed shifters with a 7 speed hyperglide freehub. It is my only indexed shifting bike and it it very nice. I wouldn’t worry about the hoop or lack of. It actually is a bit of a pain with the biopace 28t front small chainring when putting on a new chain if the chain is a bit long. That oval ring causes some bouncing of a loose chain. I changed out my biopace 28 for a round 24t, and can get 5 of the rear sprocket gears without the chain bouncing off the hoop.
