Schwinn vs Murray vs Huffy

Has there always been more interest Schwinn 10 speeds then Huffy and Murray 10 speeds? When did 10 speeds become popular and how long were they popular before mountain type bikes became the main thing? Are Huffy's and Murray's not as collectable as Schwinn for any reason?

Schwinn was a big bicycle brand with independent dealers, a full range of bikes from high to low -end, and marketing to match. Huffy and Murray were department store bike brands that stuck to the low end.

Ten speed bikes were invented by garden gnomes back in the mid 20th century. Ed Murray, Sam Huffy and, Tom Schwinn were stoned on mushrooms when the gnomes shared their secret design. Then, a unicorn showed up and a big rainbow appeared from the Pacific to the Atlantic ocean and flying monkeys ate my brains..............................................

If your aim as a collector is to corner the market on heavy, cheaply made bicycles, you can't go wrong with Murray and Huffy and a whole lotta Schwinns.
