Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Got good news today, I’m getting based back in New York August 1st.

I can’t do 4 days on 2 days off. I have literally spent my whole day off running around. Tomorrow I have to go back to Charlotte.

1 -

2 - trying to pace myself a little better on the when the going was good

3 - wherein I gave up and cut the longer sides short, mostly to avoid 10 miles of grinding in to the wind.

220w on the first go-round, 193 on the second, 166 on the third. Kinda like you'd expect.

There were elements of fatigue, pacing and soul crushing - when you turn the corner and see that the wind has kicked up and you know that you've got 10 miles until you're out of it? Ugh.

For me, there's a spot where I hit the top of a 2 milelong, 1.7% average rise, and as I hit the flat part at the top, there are no trees anymore to block the wind, and I know I'll have to fight it for 2 miles (weekday rides) or about 7 miles (weekends, riding from home), and I don't have the option to turn around or go a different way.

On the bright side, our daughter is coming up for the weekend to celebrate her birthday and Father's Day, and I'm excited about that.
I dropped $200 on a router plane plane today. A thing I wouldn't have dreamed of a year or so ago. I'm calling it a 70th birthday present to myself.

Kentucky was great, great weather, good fun. But I did have a strange thing happen on Sunday. 78 mile ride, approx. 10 miles in, I lost almost all power for climbing. My heart rate wouldn't come up over 100 bpm. I felt just fine, no pain, nothing to point at except I was pretty dehydrated. At around 60, 65 miles or so things returned to normal. Sunday, I was just fine.
