Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your Ride Reports - November 2021

If you are new to posting on this thread, or if you are new to cycling, we welcome you! If you are returning from a previous thread, we welcome you, too.

This thread is for anyone who rides a bicycle ... or unicycle, tricycle, tandem, etc.

Are you an experienced road cyclist? Do you bike to work? Do you pull your children to the park? Do you ride weekends? Do you spin at home or in the gym? Is Zwift your thing? Do you race crits, ironman, or centuries? Touring? Audax/Randonneuring?
Or are you just starting out and remembering how much fun you had biking when you were a kid?

There are no set challenges - this is a mixed-ability / mixed-experience / everyone welcome group.

Just pick the target that you would like to achieve this month and post updates throughout the month as you work toward your target. We love seeing photos of your rides and hearing all about them.

Given the current situation many of us will be cycling solo or indoors. Don't feel alone! Share your accomplishments with us.

Reasonable facsimiles?

I rode my monthly metric century yesterday, a RUSA permanent. Forgot to bring my phone *urk*, and it turned out that 4 of the controls were photo controls! So I did artist's renderings with pencil and paper resting atop the saddle, working around the cutout. Don't know if they would hold up in court, but it was the best I could do in the circumstances.
Detailed ride write-up here: https://NJgreyheadBikes.blogspot.com

"Pics" of 2 signs and a church.

Another "pic" of a sign.

On this beautiful grey November day, I scouted out a 66-mile out-n-back route I may submit for RUSA approval. Lots of variety makes it interesting to me.

Route thru a lot of old river towns, many of which have seen better days

Burlington-Bristol bridge over the Delaware River from the Jersey side

Rust-belt buildings were part of US Pipe and Foundry

"Common Sense" pamphleteer Tom Paine lived here in Bordentown NJ

I have to get caught up this month's report. First weekend of November I had to work on Saturday so only got one 40 mile ride in on Sunday. Next weekend I was in the Ocala Nat. Forest. Two very foggy 40 plus mile rides. I was concerned enough about visiblity that I went on the grass a few times when I heard a car coming up. On the weekend of the 20th I had to work that Saturday as well. However, I had a nice ride on Sunday for 44 miles. I was hoping to get in some extra rides on Thanksgiving week, since I had some time off. I did ride on Thanksgiving day for 42 miles around S. Tampa. I went to Ocala Nat. Forest after Thanksgiving, but I got spooked after encountering three car collisions (one with fatalities) on the way in. Made me think people were not focusing on their driving. Also fairly cold. On Monday when I got back I did a short 27 miles around Davis Is. Took some pictures around town with Christmas trees.

This past weekend I rode from Holland to Italy. The mountains were beautiful to see and I never knew water that moved that fast! Much faster than the rivers here in Michigan. Very nice ride. This coming weekend I will be riding Japan.

All via curtesy of utube and Wahoo! Love it.
