In my experience riding a bike on a indoor trainer has no relation to how a bike rides on the road. I have a bike permanently set up on my indoor trainer. It is a set up with 3 cm less reach and 2 cm less drop than all of my road bikes. On the rare times I put one of my regular road bikes on the trainer I hate them. I can ride each of them for hours on the road but I believe, at least certainly for me, that the fit on a bike used on a trainer is substantially different than one should use on the road.
In reference to the R5 itself I am probably biased because I have a 2016 R5 myself and it is my favorite bike out of all that I own or have owned. Which, sorry to admit, is a lot of bikes. I would at least ride the R5 on the road. I think it might feel much different to you ridden outside.

That is, the first half of it, till about post #30'ish, when there's little else constructive to be added. But since the OP got his question answered clear and well. The rest doesn't really matter anyway.
Still, one of the reason I'm staying with this board are these occasional good threads, far outweigh the trash talk. (that said, some of the trash talk are entertaining if read with a certain perspective, so I enjoy those too). This being winter, lots of moaning about the what's wrong with the board. But there's plenty of good ones. While not perfect, this is a valuable board.

It was a Project One so it was a custom build where I selected every part and every size. That's why it fits and it's still comfortable.
If it doesn't make you happy, sell it and find one that does.

The subject of this thread is really interesting. It seems like people get the sense that if they have enough invested into the high end bike and then find that it no longer suits their needs, they have somehow failed the bike. I don't think OP is alone in feeling like his decision to get rid of the bike needs to be validated, or to have people who don't know him attack his "fitness" for doing so.

Yeah, no. I don't think most people with multiple bikes need to make a conscious decision that the bike is staying on the wall, they just decide day to day to ride one of the other bikes, then realize they haven't touched one in months or years.
We make these "by default" decisions all the time, and it can take a while for usto figure out we've fundamentally changed our habits.

A bike is meant to be ridden outdoors...Zwift and indoor trainer is going to feel miserable no matter how good your bike is. If you can't ride outdoors then don't ride at all.

Huh? If riding indoors is what people want to do, why the hell would you tell them not to? People obviously enjoy Zwift and use it even though you and I would find it miserable. Truly awful advice on your part--if they're motivated to put in the effort on Zwift, more power to them..

That's with most high end widgets. It's expensive so it must be great, right? We have the occasional thread where people confess the things that didn't work out for them. Maybe we should start another one. Sometimes it clicks, and sometimes it doesn't.

I also think people sometimes buy equipment because they think the investment will inspire them to actually pursue the activity. I've bought more than a few non-bicycling things to get me to commit to this fitness program or that, and much of it remains unused. That's not a knock on people who successfully use that strategy, just that I think it misses for me and a lot of people. What I'm doing needs to inspire what I'm buying, not the other way around.
